In That Time Before All Time!

Meditate, dear friends, upon the whole range of God's works in Creation and Providence. There was a period when God dwelt alone, and creatures were not. In that time before all time, when there was no day but "the Ancient of Days," when matter and created mind were alike unborn, and even space was not-God, the great I AM, was as perfect, glorious, and as blessed as He is now. 

There was no sun, and yet Jehovah dwelt in ineffable light. There was no earth, and yet His throne stood fast and firm. There were no heavens, and yet His glory was unbounded. God inhabited eternity in the infinite majesty and happiness of His self-contained greatness. If the Lord, thus abiding in solemn solitude, should choose to create anything-the first thought and idea must come from Him, for there was no other to think or suggest. All things must be of Him in design. With whom can He take counsel? Who shall instruct Him? There existed no other to come into His council-chamber, even if such assistance could be supposable with the Highest. 

In the beginning of His way, before His works of old, eternal wisdom brought forth from its own mind the perfect plan of future creations-and every line and mark therein must clearly have been of the Lord alone. He ordained the pathway of every planet and fixed the abode of every star. He poured forth the sweet influences of the Pleiades, and girt Orion with its bands. He appointed the bounds of the sea and settled the course of the winds. As to the earth, the Lord alone planned its foundations and stretched His line upon it. He formed in His own mind, the mold of all His creatures, and found for them a dwelling and a service. He appointed the degree of strength with which He would endow each creature, settled its months of life, its hour of death, its coming and its going. 

Divine wisdom mapped this earth-its flowing rivers and foaming seas, the towering mountains, and the laughing valleys. The divine Architect fixed the gates of the morning-and the doors of the shadow of death. Nothing could have been suggested by any other, for there was no other to suggest. It was in His power to have made a universe very different from this-if He had so pleased. That He has made it what it is, must have been merely because in His wisdom and prudence, He saw fit to do so.

Time Before Time ...

God Spoke...

When God wanted to create fish, he spoke to the sea.
When God wanted to create trees, he spoke to earth.
But when God wanted to create man, he turned to Himself. God said: "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." 

If you take a fish out of the water, it will die.
When you remove a tree from the ground, it also dies.
Likewise, when man disconnects himself from God, he dies.

God is our natural environment. We were created to live in His presence. We have to stay connected to God because only in Him does life exist.

Let us remain connected with God, evermore.

Created Equal

The Founders did indeed consider abortion when they proclaimed that people are created equal, not born equal, and they are then endowed with a right to life.

A Different Body

I agree that a woman should have control over her body. But here is the problem: That baby? It isn't your body. It is his or her body. Yes, it is a body that is CONNECTED to your body. And yes, it RESIDES in your body. But it is NOT your body. 

That baby is a human being in a different body. That human being deserves life. So do what you want with YOUR body but understand that your baby is not you.

The Print of The Creator's Finger!

Let me walk through the world, so various, so beautiful, so pleasing with an open eye. It is strange that there are many who have no discernment of its wondrousness. They are dwellers in a palace, which has a variety and a magnificence that India's Taj Mahal never possessed, and they are blind to its marvels!  But I would ask for a purged and illuminated vision and then Your works in nature will astonish me. 

Let me walk through the world, which is the many-colored vesture of the Lord, with a believing mind. It is both strange and sad, that men should be atheists in a universe which carries the print of the Creator's finger on each grain of sand, each blade of grass, each beam of light! They are as senseless as one who would go through a large factory, with its complicated mechanisms and machinery, and would say, "I do not believe man exists!"  But I would be wiser than they. 

I would subscribe to William Law's sentiment, "Nature is what it is for this end only that the hidden riches, the invisible powers, the blessings, the glory, and the love of the unsearchable God may become visible, sensible, and manifest in it and by it!" This is a saner conclusion than the atheists. 

And let me walk through the world with a joyous soul. No doubt, there is much in it to fill the heart with painfulness; and pessimism has turned to the strife's and sorrows of creation for proof of its dismal creed. But the goodness of God is written, too, in letters of gold on hill and lake and mountain and forest and stream. Not a sunrise but speaks of His patient and enduring grace! Not a sunset, but stirs the conscience of the sinner, and opens Heaven itself to the saint!  So much of His divine glory, the Almighty Maker conveys by His sunrise and sunset touches, by His flowers and woodland trees, by His vast ocean and starry sky. 

Therefore, let me be strong and of good courage He remembers me, His redeemed child! The sights and sounds of the landscape ought to be preachers and trumpets of the glory of God. In the cool of the day, when I pass through the country fields, or climb to the summit of the hill, or sit and gaze across the sea God and my soul should meet and talk.

Why Did God Create The World?

Can your minds fly back to the time when there was no time to the day when there was no day, but the Ancient of Days?  Can you speed back to that period when God dwelt alone when this round world and all the things that are upon it, had not come from His hand; when the sun flamed not in his strength, and the stars flashed not in their brightness?  Can you go back to the period when there were no angels, when cherubim and seraphim had not been born; and, if there be creatures older than they, when none of them had as yet been formed?


Is it possible, I say, for you to fly so far back as to contemplate God alone, no creature, no breath of song, no motion of wing; God Himself alone, without another? Then, indeed, He had no rival none then could contest with him, for none existed.  All power, and glory, and honor and majesty were gathered up into Himself.

And we have no reason to believe that He was less glorious than He is now, when His servants delight to do His pleasure; nor less great than now, when He has crested worlds on worlds, and thrown them into space, scattering over the sky, stars with both His hands.

He sat on no precarious throne.  He needed none to add to His power.  He needed none to bring Him a revenue of praise. His all-sufficiency could have no lack.

Consider next, if you can, the eternal purpose of God that He would CREATE: He determines it in His mind. Could any but a divine motive actuate the Divine Architect? What must that motive have been? He creates that He may display His own perfections. He does beget, as it were, creatures after His own image that He may live in them; that He may manifest to others the joy, the pleasure, the satisfaction, which He so intensely feels in Himself.

I am certain His own glory must have been the end He had in view!  He would reveal His glory to the sons of men, to angels, and to such creatures as He had formed in order that they might reflect His honor and sing His praise.

Spurgeon on Divine Providence

To suppose that temporal things are too little for our condescending God, is to forget that He observes the flight of sparrows, and counts the hairs of His people's heads. Besides, everything is so little to Him, that, if He does not care for the little, He cares for nothing. 


With God there are no contingencies. The mighty Charioteer of Providence has gathered up all the reins of all the horses, and He guides them all according to His infallible wisdom. There is a predestination which concerns all things, from the motion of a grain of dust on the threshing-floor, to that of the flaming comet which blazes athwart the sky. Nothing can happen but what God ordains; and therefore, why should we fear?


There is as much divine providence in the creeping of an aphid upon a rose leaf, as in the marching of an army to ravage a continent.


Believer, if your lot in life is a lowly one, you should be satisfied with your earthly portion; for you may rest assured that it is the fittest for you. Unerring wisdom ordained your lot, and selected for you the safest and best condition!


Blessed is the man who sees God in all the trifles of his life! 


The calamities of earthquake, the devastations of storm, the ravages of war, and all the terrible catastrophes of plague, have only been co-workers with God slaves compelled to tug the ship of the divine purpose across the sea of time.


The insatiable archer (death) is not permitted to shoot his bolts at random every arrow that flies bears this inscription, "I have a message from God for you!" 


When you have looked at creation remember providence, which is a prolongation of the creative act. The power which made all things, upholds them.


It is most important for us to learn that the smallest trifles are as much arranged by the God of providence, as the most startling events. He who counts the stars, has also numbered the hairs of our heads!


He who believes in God must believe in His providential control of His creation. There is no standing point between this and atheism. There is no half way between an almighty God who works all things according to the good pleasure of His own will and no God at all. A God who cannot do as He pleases a God whose will is frustrated, is not a God, and cannot be a God; I could not believe in such a God as that.


God's providences are but the manifestations of His decrees. What God does in time, is only what He purposed in eternity.

O The Depths!

Man is superficial, God is inscrutable. Man is shallow, God is deep. "O LORD, how great are Your works!" The Psalmist is lost in wonder. He utters an exclamation of amazement. How vast! How stupendous are the doings of Jehovah! All the creations of the Infinite One are great for number, extent, and glory, and design!


"Your thoughts are very deep!" The Lord's thoughts and plans are as marvelous as His works. His designs are as profound, as His doings are vast.


Creation is immeasurable, and the wisdom displayed in it unsearchable. Providence is inexhaustible, and the divine decrees which originate it are inscrutable. Redemption is grand beyond conception, and the thoughts of love which planned it are infinite.


Dive as we may, we shall never fathom the mysterious plan, or exhaust the boundless wisdom of the all-comprehending mind of the Lord. We can only stand by the fathomless sea of divine wisdom, and exclaim with holy awe, "O the depths!"

Nothing!

How great and glorious is the character of God as seen in His Creation!  Possessed of perfect excellence, contemplating with infinite delight His glorious attributes, and containing in Himself a boundless sufficiency for the accomplishment of everything great and desirable, God saw that it was befitting to His character to unfold His perfections and communicate His goodness to an endless and innumerable race of beings.



From an infinite height, He took a survey of the limitless range of possible beings; and in a cosmos without limits, but desolate and wild, where nothing was, He called into existence with a word, the countless multitude of worlds, with all their various furnishings. With His own hand He lighted up at once innumerable stars, and rolled around them innumerable worlds! All these He perfectly dispersed and arranged and all, at the same time, He stored and adorned with a rich and unceasing variety of beauty and magnificence.



Throughout His vast empire, He surrounded His throne with intelligent creatures, to fill the immense and perfect scheme of being which originally existed with infinite splendor in His own incomprehensible mind. Independent of all possible beings and events, He sits at the head of His universe unchanged; and incapable of change amid all the vicissitudes, tossings, and tumults by which it is agitated.



When empires are overthrown, or angels fall; when stars are extinguished, and solar systems return to their original nothingness, He is as equally unmoved as when a sparrow expires, or when a hair falls from a head. Nothing can happen, nothing can be done, beyond His expectation, or without his permission. Nothing can frustrate His designs and nothing hinder His purposes!



All things, beside Him, change and fluctuate without ceasing. Events exist and vanish. Beings rise and expire. But His own existence, the thoughts which He entertains, the desires which He has, the purposes which He forms are the same yesterday, today, and forever.



Throughout the coming limitless Eternity, also, and the boundless tracts of Immensity, He sees with serene delight His own perfect purposes daily and invariably advancing with a regular fulfillment towards their absolute completion. In its own place, in its own time, and in its own manner each exists in exact obedience to His immutable will, and in exact accordance with His choice.



Nothing lingers, nothing hastens but His counsel exactly stands, and all His good pleasure will be precisely accomplished.

Why We Should Not Fear

We are in a world full of dangers. Perils throng around us on every side. We are in peril from disease germs, from poison, from accidents, from evil people, from the forces of nature. There are so many things around us calculated, when circumstances are favorable, to destroy our life, our health, our happiness. A thousand dangers surround us on every hand!

In the spiritual realm there is a continued conflict. It is useless to cry "Peace, peace," for we are surrounded by the forces of evil.  In the midst of this evil, is it any wonder that we should fear? Why should we not be afraid? What assurance have we of the safety of body or soul? What wonder if we shrink back from the conflicts, the trials, and the dangers of life? But God calmly looks down upon it all, sees it all, and yet says again and again to us, "Fear not!" "Be not afraid!" "Let not your hearts be troubled!" Paul says, "In nothing terrified by your adversaries." How can we help being afraid? Why should not terror take hold upon us? Why should we not shrink in dismay?

Well, there are plenty of reasons why we should not. God enumerates in Isaiah 43 some of these reasons why we should not fear. There he says to his people, "Do not be afraid." He does not say this merely to make them overlook the dangers around them, or to give them a false sense of security. He says this because they really have no reason to be afraid. 

In summing up the reasons why they should not be afraid, he gives the following: he calls himself "the Lord who created you." God created us as we are. He put us in the midst of all these dangers. We are weak because we are finite humans. God created us thus, and the fact that he created us, thus places upon him a responsibility with regard to us. If he places us in the midst of these temptations, trials, difficulties, and dangers, then will he not be responsible for the outcome? And if he is responsible for the outcome, then is he not responsible to see that conditions are such that we can meet these difficulties victoriously?  Is he not under obligation to provide for our safety?  Certainly he is.  More than that, he will not shrink from the obligation that rests upon him to provide for us.

Creation

Creation itself is one of the greatest testimonies to the fact there is a God.
