O The Wonders Couched in Electing Love!

Did the shepherd prize his flock? God calls His people, "His flock, His beautiful flock." Does the miser prize his wealth? God says of His people, "You shall be a special treasure unto Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine." Does the prince prize his jewels? God says of His people, "They shall be Mine, in that day when I make up My jewels!" (Malachi 3:17) Does the bridegroom prize his beloved and dearly purchased bride? It is written, "As the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you!" (Isaiah 62:5) Does the reigning monarch prize his crown? God has said, "You shall be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God."  (Isaiah 62:3)

What wondrous love, such expressions as these represent! How precious must the Lord's people be to Him! Truly they are His special treasure! God chose them to be special unto Himself. He chose them out from among others. He chose them in preference to others. He chose them out from others, on purpose that they may be a special people unto Himself. And in so doing, He acted FREELY. It was not on account of anything He saw in them, or on account of anything He expected from them; but in the exercise of His most free and holy sovereignty, He chose them to participate in the glory of His Son! In choosing them, He acted also DELIBERATELY. It was no hasty choice. His thoughts had been eternally filled with them. His heart had been eternally set upon them.

Therefore, He chose them in Christ before the foundation of the world! In choosing them, He acted WISELY, as He really desired to have them. For each one of them is ready to confess that if God had not chosen them, that they would never have chosen Him! The nature regulates the choice; and as our nature is carnal and impure, we would never have chosen God who is spiritual and holy. His choice was just an early expression of His LOVE. The love which chose them, would do anything for them, and give anything to them!

Therefore, God spared not His own Son but delivered Him up for them all; and in so doing, gave them the assurance that He will also freely give them all things in Christ. O the wonders couched in electing love! This act of choosing such creatures as we are, to be a special people unto Himself, displays such grace, such condescension, such infinite wisdom and love!

The Lamb's Bride!

Every true Christian is part of the redeemed Church the Bride, the Lamb's wife! She was beloved by the Heavenly Bridegroom before time began, with an unfathomable and immutable love! She is endowed by Him with all that He has, and with all that He is. She has a priceless inheritance reserved in Heaven for her pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay!

He has placed all the precious promises as a treasure in her hands. His providences guide and defend her path. His righteousness is her beauteous robe, rendering her fit to shine forever in the palace of the heavenly King. Her seat is prepared beside Him on His throne. It would exhaust all time to give a brief survey of the glories which adorn her! Jesus enriches His chosen bride with the best of gifts!

He withholds nothing precious from her. All of His attributes are her grand inheritance! His wisdom is hers to guide her! His power is hers to uphold her! His love is as the sun to cheer her! His faithfulness and truth are her shield and support! His Spirit is hers, to comfort, to teach, to solace, and to bless her! His righteousness is hers, to be her spotless robe. His Heaven is hers, to be her home! His throne is hers, to be her seat! His glory is hers, to be her crown! His eternity is hers, that she may rejoice forever!

[Henry Law]

Revelation 19:7-9 ... Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.  And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

My Hearts Reprise

He's the whisper in the wind, He's the high tide rolling in.
The sunbeam on my face, He floods me with His grace.

He's the song the mockingbird sings, the aroma the honey suckle brings.
He's the light of the morning sunrise, He is my hearts reprise.

He's the pearls that compliment a gown, The beauty of golden honey running down. He's the taste of sweet milk chocolate, No, He's more than a feast at a banquet.

He is perfect love, perfection. I pause I close my eyes.  I breathe. He is my cause.
Can't think, can't speak, my throat grows tight I'm weak, numb all over, losing sight.

Could this be? I've fallen for a man I can't even see. But I feel Him. His scent surrounds me.  Beautiful, amazing, bold yet soft.

I've fallen free.  I'm in love. I'm in love.  I'm in HIS love.
The chamber room is right. No one but He and I to dance in the twilight.

Christ or The World...

You cannot operate as the bride of Christ while married to the world.

Cross Plow

He gives you strength to move mountains. He came to give you His Supernatural LIFE. Astounding power to endure all things and do all things. Dynamic power to carry His sacrificial love to the soil of this earth and that all may see you are indeed Children of the living God.

Nothing will overcome those who grasp Truth. Lazy, complacent, apathetic Christians do not reflect His dynamic power to dig deep in the soil of His love for others. Self-indulgence robs His Supernatural Children. Sacrificial love digs deep and presses through the hard dark soil of life’s circumstance. It carries the yoke of burden. It shares in His sufferings and understands what’s at stake. It sacrifices and digs deep for the sake of His Children, His body and His Bride.

Work the soil. You have it in you. He can speak to you in your movement and your worship. Be open to Him as you move about your details. Like being married. Constant communication is part of the relationship in the good soil of your daily life. Responsibility and discipline walk hand in hand with His Spirit. Order, function and power are byproducts of His love and His LIFE.

Effective are His Joy-filled farmers that plow in His strength. Stay close to His voice and His counsel and you will indeed be planting His Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.

[Troi Nelson Cockayne]

Matthew 13:23 ...  But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Matthew 16:24 ... Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

The Believer's Graces

Saving grace is the infusion of new and holy principles into the heart, whereby it is changed from what it was, and is made more and more into Christ's image. Grace infuses light into the understanding, tenderness into the conscience, consent into the will, and harmony into the affections.

Yes, grace is like leaven, pervading the whole man until all is leavened. Grace is a string of pearls, with which the Church (Christ's Bride) is adorned. The heart inlaid and enameled with grace, is like the "King's daughter, all glorious within." A gracious soul is the image of Christ, skillfully drawn with the pencil of the Holy Spirit. A heart beautified with grace is God's lesser Heaven, "I dwell in the high and lofty place, and also with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit." (Isaiah 57:15)

Grace humbles yet elevates. Grace is the flower of the soul, which fragrance Christ delights to savor. Grace is to the soul, what the eye is to the body, the sun is to the world, the diamond is to the ring. Grace makes the heart a spiritual temple which has this inscription on it, "Holiness unto the Lord!" (Zechariah 14:20)

The believer's graces are weapons to defend them, wings to elevate them, jewels to enrich them, spices to perfume them, stars to adorn them, cordials to revive them, and evidence for Heaven, when death is near. When grace flourishes, sin cannot thrive! Grace is Christ's portrait drawn on the soul. The river of grace can never be dried up, for the Spirit of God is the spring which feeds it.

Here on earth, Christ puts His graces upon His spouse; in Heaven He will put His glory upon her.

[Thomas Watson]

Isaiah 61:10 ...  I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

Marriage Made in Heaven

Outside the jasper walls, peering in at His loving family, A glowing contrast to the ashes and waste that surrounds me. I stand in rags and wounds. To my amazement the beautiful young groom holds out His hand and says, "I love you." "Me, a rebellious leper?" "Yes, take my hand, Come to Me".

"But I can't. I've done my own thing, Gone my ways and now I see. I am dying alone, destitute." "Take My hand. Come." " I can't! I'm not worthy. My skin crawls with filth!" "Shh, My love, take my hand."

I tentatively reach out and touch His gentle pierced hand. He draws me into Him and He into me. I am His bride. I partake with His family. Not left behind, not second place but always and forever blended and united, joint heirs.

[Mary Jane Andrews]

Romans 8:17 ... And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

For His Poor Rachel!

Did Jacob serve seven years for his Rachel by day in the heat, and by night in the frost—and did they seem but as a day unto him for the love he had for her?

Our spiritual Jacob has far exceeded him! He left the throne of His glory for His poor Rachel, and took her humble flesh in the form of a servant; and for her sake served thirty-three years under the Law! He bore the heat of temptation, weariness and thirst; as well as the cold of reproach and scorn, and the malice of sinners against Himself. This He thought not too much; for when He had finished the work on her behalf, for her He cheerfully entered upon the most bitter part of His sufferings, which made even His mighty heart to shudder with agony, while His dear lips prayed, "O my Father, if it is possible, (with the rescue of my Bride) let this cup of suffering be taken away from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will."

Behold the depth of His unflinching love! The 'cup of curse' must be drunk or the captive Bride must perish! And so He takes the bitter cup, and does not turn away until every dreg is consumed! And the same sacred lips which emptied it could say in triumph, "It is finished!"

For the joy that was set before Him (of possessing His beloved bride) He endured the cross, despising the shame, and has now sat down at the right hand of God, until the blissful consummation before assembled worlds, when it will be joyfully proclaimed, "The marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready!"

Then shall the spiritual Jacob and His Rachel meet and embrace, and part no more forever! She transformed into His likeness, shall be satisfied! And He seeing her in glory, (the very travail of His soul,) shall be satisfied likewise!

God is Calling ...

God is calling His Bride to see her unique beauty.  Many are dismayed and fragmented in this season by fear, worry and by the hurtful words of mere mortals, while the maker of the universe and butterflies waits and wants to show each one of us personally His vision for our individual lives. I see Jesus smiling with the sheer beauty of what His plans are for you beloved.

God wants to reveal to you inspired, joy-filled visions. Custom blueprints of your DNA destiny.  TODAY, allow the clamorous world to fade and learn to spend time with the presence of God (True Love). This is not only healing, it is 'revealing'.

Jesus always took time to shut out the world, to meet with His Father, in order to see 'His' beautiful purpose and plans for his life.

Jesus is sitting in your heart. He has a smile on His face and He has some blueprints with your personal name on them.

The greatest question is, "Will you make time to meet with Him?"

[Troi Nelson Cockayne]

Joel 2:16 … Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.

Vibrant Bride

The mind of Christ is perfect, excellent and radically creative. We as His Children are made in His image and should reflect His glory. Creative excellence should mark the vibrant Bride of Christ. Expandable growth and beauty, like a new Wine skin with new Wine always asks the question, "How can we make this better?". It rides the waves of inspired revelation, ideas and solutions, from glory to GLORY.

The Journey

Facts are more wonderful than fables. The journey which our Divine Lover took was from Heaven to earth. To win His bride, He exchanged the bosom of the eternal Father to lie, a feeble infant, on a woman's bosom. The Son of God left the throne of the universe, and assumed the guise of humanity to be cradled in a feeding trough and murdered on a cross!

In His people, He found His bride deep in debt and paid it all. Herself under sentence of death, He died in her place. A lost creature, clad in rags, He took off His own royal robes to cover her. To wash her, He shed His blood! To win her, He shed His tears! Finding her poor and miserable and naked, He endowed her with all His goods and heir of all things. Everything that He possessed as His Father's Son, she was to forever enjoy and share with Himself!

[Thomas Guthrie]

The Bridegroom and His Church

The blessed Holy Spirit who possesses the consecrated heart is intensely concerned for our highest life and watches us with a sensitive and even a jealous love.  Very beautiful is the true translation of that ordinary passage in James 4:5, The Spirit that dwelleth in us loveth us to jealousy.  The heart of the Holy Spirit is deeply concerned in preserving us from every stain and blemish and in bringing us into the very highest possibilities of the will of God.

The heavenly Bridegroom would have His Church not only free from every spot, but also from every wrinkle, or any such thing. The spot is the mark of sin, but the wrinkle is the sign of weakness, age and decay; Jesus wants no such defacing touch upon the holy features of His beloved. So the Holy Spirit, who is the Executor of His will and the Divine Messenger whom He sends to call, separate and bring home His Bride, is jealously concerned in fulfilling in us all the Master’s will.

Lord, take from me every blemish and mark of weakness and decay and make me Thy spotless Bride.

[A. B. Simpson]

The Magnetic Power of His Love

The day of conversion is termed the "day of espousals" in Song of Solomon 3:11. It is the day in which Jesus, our Heavenly Bridegroom, wins the heart of His bride. He reveals His love to her,  shows His beauties to her,   tells her of His sufferings for her sake.

He woos her by His sighs and tears and agonies, and lays siege to her heart on every side while His lips drop honey-words of loving affection. Unable to resist such heavenly importunity, she finds her prejudices melting fast away. One barrier after another is broken down, and at last, allured by the magnetic power of His love, she gives herself to Him, and with tears of joy exclaims, "My Beloved is mine and I am His!"

Oh, happy day, when the soul is espoused to Christ. All Heaven looks on and rings a marriage peal, while the sweetest music fills the new-born heart!

[Archibald Brown]

Song of Solomon 3:11 ... Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.

Song of Solomon 2:16 ... My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.

Hosea 2:19 ... And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.

When in Secret Prayer

A husband imparts his mind most freely and fully to his wife when she is alone; and so does Christ to the believing soul.

Oh, the secret kisses,   the secret embraces,   the secret visits,   the secret whispers,   the secret cheerings,   the secret discoveries, which God gives to His people when in secret prayer.

[Thomas Brooks]

Tender Kisses

Of all the relationships that we as believers share with our blessed Savior, perhaps none is more intimate and comforting than that of marriage. Jesus has betrothed us to Himself in holy matrimony and covenant grace. We are His beloved bride,  the apple of His eye,  the darling of His heart; and He is the gracious Husband of our immortal souls! We are, by sovereign grace, forever one with Jesus our Husband!

Oh what a glorious privilege it is to be joined to Jesus in the blessed bond of marriage! He loves me! He cares for me! He defends and protects me! He provides for my every need! He comforts, supports, and cherishes me! I have His heart and He has mine!  I am my Beloved's and my Beloved is mine! I belong to Him and He belongs to me!

Oh that my Beloved would "kiss me with the kisses of His mouth," that He would embrace my soul,  draw me to Himself,  caress my heart ever so gently with His merciful touch,  and grant me sweet tokens of His love for me.

Oh how I long for Him to express His love and affection to me with the tender kisses of sovereign love,  free grace,  immutable faithfulness,  and undying compassion, "for His love is better than wine!"

Wine makes glad the heart, but His love is better than the finest wine! His love causes my broken heart to rejoice,   renews my strength,  brightens my vision,  causes me to walk uprightly in the paths of righteousness, and  moves my heart to take flight through the heavens with wings as an eagle.

Excess wine intoxicates men, and is forbidden by God. Too much wine will ruin a man. It alters the state of men's minds, seizes control of men, dulls their senses, and destroys their ability to exercise sound judgment and reason.

But Jesus' love is better than wine! It is not possible to overindulge in the intoxicating love of Jesus, nor is it forbidden. Indeed, the gospel encourages love to Jesus. The wine of His love doesn't ruin men, it transforms them!

His love for us, invigorates our love for Him  intoxicating our hearts,  seizing control of them,  overpowering our wills and our senses,  giving us sound reason, and spiritual judgment.

Oh blessed Lord, we beg you, give us this wine! Fill our cups full! Cause them to overflow! Pour into our hearts the intoxicating love of Jesus the Lord!

The desire of a believer's soul can be summed up in one word, JESUS! We desire Him;   His person,  His love,  His glory,  His grace,  His will,  His salvation,   His righteousness,  His way. All we want is in Jesus!  All we need is in Jesus!  All we have is in Jesus!

Jesus is all and Jesus is better! Better than the treasures of kings!  Better than all earthly possessions! Better than passing pleasures and prestige! Indeed, He is better than all earthly delights combined!

If we don't have Jesus, then we have nothing! If we have Him, then we have everything!

[Frank Hall]

No Spot

Having pronounced His Church positively full of beauty, our Lord confirms His praise by a precious negative, "There is no spot in you!" As if the thought occurred to the Bridegroom that the carping world would insinuate that He had only mentioned her lovely parts and had purposely omitted those features which were deformed or defiled; He sums up all by declaring her universally and entirely lovely, and utterly devoid of stain.

A spot may soon be removed, and is the very least thing that can disfigure beauty but even from this little blemish, the believer is delivered in his Lord's sight. If He had said there is no hideous scar, no horrible deformity, no repulsive ulcer we might even then have marveled. But when He testifies that she is free from the slightest spot, all these other forms of defilement are included, and the height of wonder is increased.

If He had but promised to remove all spots in heaven, we would have had eternal reason for joy. But when He speaks of it as already done who can restrain the most intense emotions of satisfaction and delight! O my soul, here is marrow and fatness for you; eat your full, and be satisfied with royal dainties!

Christ Jesus has no quarrel with His spouse. She often wanders from Him, and grieves Him but He does not allow her faults to affect His love. He sometimes chides but it is always in the tenderest manner, with the kindest intentions it is "My love" even then. There is no remembrance of our follies. He does not cherish ill thoughts of us but He pardons and loves as well after the offence as before it! It is well for us that it is so, for if Jesus were as mindful of injuries as we are how could He commune with us? Our precious Husband knows our silly hearts too well to take any offence at our follies and faults!

His Bride, His Delight

It is the consciousness of the threefold joy of the Lord, His joy in ransoming us, His joy in dwelling within us as our Saviour and Power for fruit bearing and His joy in possessing us, as His Bride and His delight; it is the consciousness of this joy which is our real strength. Our joy in Him may be a fluctuating thing: His joy in us knows no change.
