Christ Awareness

Whenever anything begins to disintegrate your life with Jesus Christ, turn to Him at once, asking Him to re-establish your rest. Never allow anything to remain in your life that is causing the unrest. Think of every detail of your life that is causing the disintegration as something to fight against, not as something you should allow to remain.

[Oswald Chambers]

Matthew 11:28-29 ... Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

True Rest!!

The remembrance of this word of Peter may help you to bring God into everything; He can manage and undertake for you far better than you can for yourself. There is no load of anxiety for yourself or others, no strait in which you can be placed, no perplexities that can harass and bewilder you, but the Lord bids you to cast it upon Him and leave it trustfully in His hands. The only way to obtain relief under the manifold cares that often encompass our path, is to cast them all on God. We must bring them to our Father and leave them with Him! We must tell them out in the ear of our great High Priest and have confidence enough in Him to know that He will not neglect that which we commit to Him. "Casting all your cares upon Him, for HE CARES FOR YOU." (1 Peter 5:7) Yes, this is our consolation.

Christ is the Friend who cares for us, thinks upon us, hears every sigh and groan, marks every tear, and knows every sorrow that weighs upon the mind. Ah, it is a thought to cheer a believer at all times what a Friend have I in Christ! He is the Friend always nearby. Though banished far from home and kindred, Christ is always by my side. I cannot see Him, but I know that He is here. He has promised me, "I will never leave you nor forsake you," (Hebrews 13:5) and He will be as good as His Word.

Then I may add another thought: Christ is kinder than the kindest. Could I gather together all the rays of kindness, pity, tender love, that have ever glowed in the heart of a mother toward her child, of a bridegroom toward the bride, of a brother to brother, of a friend to friend all combined would be but as one tiny sunbeam, compared to that wondrous love which is in the heart of Christ for His redeemed people! Nor is it less comforting for me, to remember that He who cares for me is changeless in His faithfulness and love.

Oh, the marvelous sympathy, gentleness, loving-kindness which Christ daily shows me, and which I know will never cease! Hence it is a most reasonable thing for me to cast all my cares on Him. His presence, His kindness, His effectual power, His unswerving faithfulness warrant me in leaving all in His hand. Oh, that I may ever have grace to flee to this refuge and hiding place!

Oh, that every burden, every fear, every foreboding, every jot and tittle of my daily anxieties, may all be entrusted to His loving hand!

[George Everard]

Matthew 11:28 ... Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Real Rest

The bosom of Jesus still pillows the head of the weary, loving disciple of the Lord. There is no real rest for the soul, but in Jesus.  Where should the Christ-loved, the Christ-loving disciple lean, with his sins and sorrows, with his weariness and want but upon the bosom of his Lord? It is the place of repose, of faith, and of love.

There is room for you there amid the countless ones who fly to it for consolation, safety, and repose! Go and lean with your burden, your grief, and your sin, where the beloved disciple reclined; and you shall realize the blessedness of the oneness, confidence, and affection which exist between Jesus and all the disciples whom He loves.

[Octavius Winslow]

John 21:20 … Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?

Matthew 11:28 … Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Rest in Christ Alone

Reader, can you find rest apart from the ark, Christ Jesus? Then be assured that your religion is vain. Are you satisfied with anything short of a conscious knowledge of your union and interest in Christ? Then woe unto you. If you profess to be a Christian, yet find full satisfaction in worldly pleasures and pursuits, your profession is false. If your soul can stretch herself at rest, and find the bed long enough, and the coverlet broad enough to cover her in the chambers of sin, then you are a hypocrite, and far enough from any right thoughts of Christ or perception of his preciousness.

But if, on the other hand, you feel that if you could indulge in sin without punishment, yet it would be a punishment of itself; and that if you could have the whole world, and abide in it forever, it would be quite enough misery not to be parted from it; for your God, your God, is what your soul craves after; then be of good courage, thou art a child of God. With all thy sins and imperfections, take this to thy comfort: if thy soul has no rest in sin, thou are not as the sinner is! If thou art still crying after and craving after something better, Christ has not forgotten thee, for thou hast not quite forgotten him.

The believer cannot do without his Lord; words are inadequate to express his thoughts of him. We cannot live on the sands of the wilderness, we want the manna which drops from on high; our skin bottles of creature confidence cannot yield us a drop of moisture, but we drink of the rock which follows us, and that rock is Christ. When you feed on him your soul can sing, “He hath satisfied my mouth with good things, so that my youth is renewed like the eagle's,” but if you have him not, your bursting wine vat and well-filled barn can give you no sort of satisfaction: rather lament over them in the words of wisdom, “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity!”

[Charles H. Spurgeon]

Genesis 8:9 … But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.

The Shelter of His Wings

Rest for the weary, is found here.

Peace for the troubled, is found here.
Hope for the hopeless, is found here.
Salvation for the lost is found here.

[James Smith]

Psalm 17:8 ... Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

Psalm 51:1 ... Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.

Psalm 91:1 ... He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalm 91:4 ... He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Psalm 36:7 ... How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

Psalm 91:14 ... Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

Come Unto Me

Come unto Me, all ye that labor,
That sink beneath your load of care;
Come unto Me when shadows gather,
And raise your hearts to Me in prayer.
I wait to give your souls a blessing,
To lift you upward to My breast;
Come, weary, worn, and heavy-laden,
And I will give you rest.
Come unto Me, all ye that hunger,
When all your fairest hopes have died;
When all the joys that Earth can give you
Have left you still unsatisfied;
Her stony bread and broken cisterns
Your thirsting souls forever mock;
Come unto Me, and I will give you
The water from the Rock.
Come unto Me, ye brokenhearted
Who walk alone life's thorny ways;
For you I felt Myself forsaken,
And now am with you all the days.
My love alone is everlasting;
The heart I made, shall I not fill?
Come, lonely, sad, your want confessing;
And all your longing still.

[Annie Johnson Flint]

Matthew 11:28-30 ... Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

The Laborer's Rest

The Lord's purpose in laying burdens upon us is to weary us out. We cannot learn our religion in any other way. We cannot learn it from the Bible, nor from the experience of others. It must be a personal work, wrought in the heart of each; and we must be brought, all of us, if ever we are to find rest in Christ, to be absolutely wearied out of sin and self, and to have no righteousness, goodness, or holiness of our own.

The effect, then, of all spiritual labor is to bring us to this point: to be weary of the world, for we feel it, for the most part, to be a valley of tears; to be weary of self, for it is our greatest plague; weary of professors, for we cannot see in them the grace of God, which alone we prize and value; weary of the profane, for their ungodly conversation only hurts our minds; weary of our bodies, for they are often full of sickness and pain, and always clogs to our soul; and weary of life, for we see the emptiness of those things which to most people make life so agreeable.

By this painful experience we come to this point: to be worn out and wearied; and there we must come, before we can rest entirely on Christ.

As long as we can rest in the world, we shall rest in it. As long as the things of time and sense can gratify us, we shall be gratified in them. As long as we can find anything pleasing in self, we shall be pleased with it. As long as anything visible and tangible can satisfy us, we shall be satisfied with them.

But when we get weary of all things visible, tangible, and sensible, weary of ourselves, and of all things here below, then we want to rest upon Christ, and Christ alone.

Rest

Christ's invitation to the weary and heavy-laden is a call to begin life over again upon a new principle, upon His own principle. "Watch My way of doing things," He says. "Follow Me. Take life as I take it. Be meek and lowly, and you will find Rest."

[Henry Drummond]

The Restless Bed

What is sown now — will be reaped in eternity.
Eternal life is the free gift of a gracious God.
Eternal punishment is the just wages of eternal sin.
We deserve Hell now — but we may escape it by fleeing to Jesus. If we refuse to do so — then we can only expect to reap the fruit of our folly.
Heaven is the gift of God's grace — but Hell is the wages of sin.
Every sinner makes his own Hell. In this light, let us look at the words of the Psalmist, "If I make my bed in Hell." Psalm 139:8

[James Smith]

John 3:36 ... He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Matthew 25:46 ... And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Romans 6:23 ... For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Resting in God

If you look at the world, you'll be distressed. If you look within, you'll be depressed. If you look at God you'll be at rest.

[Corrie Ten Boom]

Hebrews 12:2 ... Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Colossians 3:1-2 ... If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.  Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

John 16:33 ... These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Shabbat

שָׁבַת

The Sabbath; meaning to cease, to end, or to rest.

Shabbat is from sunset on day six (Friday) and ends on day seven at night(Saturday).

Shabbat is the day to remember that God created the world, and then rested from His labors.

The Fourth Commandment.

Jesus/Yeshua is Gods Sabbath Rest.

Genesis 2:2-3 ... And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.  And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Exodus 20:8 ... Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Deuteronomy 5:12 ... Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.

Isaiah 58:13-14 ... If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:  Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

Hebrews 4:9-11 ... There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.  For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Mark 2:27-28 ... And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Matthew 12:8 ... For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.✞

Come to Me

Enter in His Rest

A great many people are trying to make peace, but that has already been done. God has not left it for us to do; all we have to do is to enter into it.

[D.L. Moody]

John 14:27 ...  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Lay Your Burden Down

We are not designed to be alone and to carry the cares of this life. God tells us to cast ALL of our care upon Him. (1 Peter 5:7) We should not try to shoulder our burdens. The increasing load will break us over time. Instead, we need to lay our burdens down at the foot of the cross. Jesus will meet us there… and He lightens our load!

[Author Unknown]

Psalm 55:22 … Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Matthew 11:28-30 … Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

John 8:36 … If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. ❤

Come To Jesus

When a person turns to Christ empty—that they may be filled; sick—that they may be healed; hungry—that they may be satisfied; thirsty—that they may be refreshed; needy—that they may be enriched; dying—that they may have life; lost—that they may be saved; guilty—that they may be pardoned; sin-defiled—that they may be cleansed; confessing that Christ alone can supply their need—then they come to Christ. This, and nothing more than this, is coming to Christ.

[J.C. Ryle]

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30 ♥
