Wait On The Lord

"Wait on the Lord" is a constant refrain in the Psalms, and it is a necessary word, for God often keeps us waiting. He is not in such a hurry as we are, and it is not his way to give more light on the future than we need for action in the present, or to guide us more than one step at a time. When in doubt, do nothing, but continue to wait on God. When action is needed, light will come.

[J. I. Packer]

Psalm 130:5 ... I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.

Lamentations 3:26 ... It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

Genuine Worship

We need to discover all over again that worship is natural to the Christian, as it was to the godly Israelites who wrote the psalms, and that the habit of celebrating the greatness and graciousness of God yields an endless flow of thankfulness, joy, and zeal.

[J. I. Packer]

Psalm 95:6 ... O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.

Psalm 99:5 ...  Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.

Psalm 66:4 ...  All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.

John 4:23-24 ... But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

The Spirit's Ministry

It is not as we strain after feelings and experiences but as we seek God Himself, looking to Him as our Father, prizing His fellowship, and finding in ourselves an increasing concern to know and please Him, that the reality of the Spirit's ministry becomes visible in our lives. This is needed truth which can lift us out of the quagmire of non-spiritual views of the Spirit in which so many today are floundering.

[J.I. Packer]

John 14:26 ... But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Romans 14:17 ... For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Acts 5:32 ... And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. ðŸ•Š

The Incarnation

It is here, in the thing that happened at the first Christmas, that the most profound unfathomable depths of the Christian revelation lie. God became man; Nothing in fiction is so fantastic as this truth of the incarnation.

[J. I. Packer]

Matthew 1:23 ... Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

John 1:14 ... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Isaiah 9:6 ... For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

1 Timothy 3:16 ... And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

God's Promises

The stars may fall, but God’s promises will stand and be fulfilled.

[J.I. Packer]

Deuteronomy 7:9 ... Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

Deuteronomy 31:8 ... And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

Zephaniah 3:17 ... The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

2 Corinthians 1:20 ...  For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.❤

Humble and Teachable

Not until we have become humble and teachable, standing in awe of God's holiness and sovereignty. acknowledging our own littleness, distrusting our own thoughts, and willing to have our minds turned upside down, can divine wisdom become ours.

[J.I. Packer]

Proverbs 14:6 ... A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.

1 Peter 5:6 ... Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Matthew 18:4 ... Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.❤

Do You Know Him?

There's a difference between knowing God and knowing about God. When you truly know God, you have energy to serve him and boldness to share him.

[J.I. Packer]

Proverbs 28:1 … The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

2 Corinthians 3:12 … Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:

Acts 4:31 … And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. ♥
