James 1:5

The church is looking for better methods, God is looking for holier men. What the Church needs today is not more or better machinery, not new organizations or more and novel methods but men mighty in prayer.

The Holy Spirit does not flow through methods but through men. He does not come on machinery but on men. He does not anoint plans but men, men of prayer.

Prayer is our most formidable weapon, the thing which makes all else we do efficient.

[E. M. Bounds]

Acts 2:42 ... And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

James 5:16 ... Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 ... Pray without ceasing.

New Methods, New Plans, New Organizations!

The young preacher has been taught to lay out all his strength on the form, style, and beauty of his sermon as an oratorical performance.

We have thereby cultivated a worldly taste in the church and raised the clamor for talent, instead of grace;  eloquence, instead of piety; rhetoric, instead of revelation;  brilliancy, instead of holiness.

What the Church needs today is not more or better machinery, nor new organizations, nor novel methods but men whom the Holy Spirit can use, men of prayer, men mighty in prayer.

The Holy Spirit does not flow through methods, but through men. He does not anoint church machinery, but men, men of prayer.

We are constantly straining to devise new methods, new plans, new organizations to advance the Church and secure enlargement and efficiency for the gospel.

The Church is looking for better methods.  God is looking for holier men.

2 Corinthians 11:4 … For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

1 Peter 1:16 … Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Men of Prayer

The church is looking for better methods. God is looking for holier men.

Acts 1:14 ... These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Acts 2:42 ... And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

James 5:16 ... Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.❤

Obedience to God's Will

If two angels were to receive at the same moment a commission from God, one to go down and rule earth's grandest empire, the other to go and sweep the streets of its meanest village, it would be a matter of entire indifference to each which service fell to his lot, the post of ruler or the post of scavenger; for the joy of the angels lies only in obedience to God's will.

[E. M. Bounds]

Psalm 103:20 ... Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

Psalm 91:11 ... For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

1 Peter 3:22 ... Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

The Mightiest Agent

Prayer is of transcendent importance. Prayer is the mightiest agent to advance God's work. Praying hearts and hands only can do God's work. Prayer succeeds when all else fails.

[E.M. Bounds]

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16 ❤

The Secret Place

The soul which has come into intimate contact with God in the silence of the prayer chamber is never out of conscious touch with the Father; the heart is always going out to Him in loving communion, and the moment the mind is released from the task upon which it is engaged, it returns as naturally to God as the bird does to its nest. What a beautiful conception of prayer we get if we regard it in this light.

[E.M. Bounds]

Psalm 91:1 ... He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalm 17:8 ... Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

Psalm 32:7 ... Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.

Psalm 95:2 ... Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

Song of Solomon 2:14 ... O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.

Romans 13:12 ... The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
