Lot's Wife...

Don't look back. You're not going that way.

Genesis 19:23-26 ... The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

We Are Like That Dove!!

The condition of a Christian wandering over earth in search of rest; and disappointed, returning at length to his Savior, glad to be received again into His bosom, where alone there is peace. Surely, he who has been accustomed to drink at the pure fountain of spiritual joy, can never find rest for the soul in this polluted world. How true is it, that to one whose affections have been directed to things above, earthly pleasures seem to have lost their usual relish.

No prospect however beautiful, no pleasures however tantalizing can be enjoyed, without the associated presence and blessing of God. Yet when God is recognized in them, and the heart is properly affected towards Him-then do even earthly scenes acquire an additional interest. But let the Christian lose sight for a season of his heavenly inheritance, and wander over earth's surface in search of worldly good how soon will he find an unsatisfying vacuity, where not even an olive leaf shall be found to greet his eye or to cheer his heart.

The Christian may so far backslide, as to wish to explore anew the world which he professes to have forsaken, and God may allow him to do so. But O how soon his wing will tire, and his prospect become gloomy. Glad will he be to return and flutter around the ark, longing to be taken in, where he can once more feel himself happy and at home. And Jesus kindly extends His hand to take us in, even when we have sinfully wandered from His loving arms.

Why is it that we can be so often deceived? Have we not tried the world, and have we not been disappointed in the pursuit? Never again then let us leave the sacred ark, never again wander from our Lord.

[Jared Waterbury]

Genesis 8:9 ...  But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.

Enlightened!!

Into what a new world of wonders are we introduced, when the Holy Spirit visits us with enlightening grace! We are then indeed translated from darkness to light; and pass from death unto life. We enter upon a new being. Previously sin had fast closed our eyes, so that we saw nothing in the spiritual kingdom of grace. But when He, who said "Let there be light," (Genesis 1:3) and there was light in the chaos of nature, says "Let there be light" in the dark chambers of the soul, instantly the scales fall off, and we see ourselves vile and loathsome in the pollution of our sins, and we see that there is One mighty to save us, even Jesus we see Him in all the beauty of His person and work, chief among ten thousand and altogether lovely; washing out our every transgression in His own most precious blood, and covering our every deformity in the spotless robe of His divine righteousness. Blessed are the eyes which see this enrapturing sight!

[Matthew Henry]

How You Treat Others ...

Cain killed his brother and still did not become the accepted one.

Those that continue to pull people down will never be raised up!!

Genesis 4:5-11 ... But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.  And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.  And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;

The God of Light!

Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is to behold the sun. In what believing heart will not these words awaken a quick and grateful response? The renewed man is the only being who knows what true light is, because he only, really knows Jesus. All others are like miners dwelling from their birth beneath the surface of the earth, having never seen the sun, through whose eternal gloom not one vivifying ray has ever pierced. "Darkness covers the earth, and gross darkness the people." (Isaiah 60:2)

When man sinned, God went out of the temple, luminous and glorious with His presence, and the sun of the soul set in guilt, darkness, and death. Henceforth the natural man walks in darkness, not knowing where he goes, until the time of electing love and sovereign grace draws on, when He who at creation's dawn said, "Let there be light, and light was," (Genesis 1:3) causes the light of life to shine, and the soul is immediately "translated out of darkness into His marvelous light," (1 Peter 2:9) henceforth and forever to be a child of the light and of the day. "You were once darkness, but now are you light in the Lord Walk as children of light." (Ephesians 5:8)

But the present pages have more especially to do with God Himself as the God of light. We are invited to consider, less the reflection and effects of God's light, than the Divine Fountain from which it flows.

[Octavius Winslow]

1 John 1:5 ... This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

How Will I Vote?

I will vote for the most pro-life candidate, because God hates the shedding of innocent blood.

(Proverbs 6:17)

I will vote for the most Pro-Israel candidate, because God blesses those who bless Israel and He curse those who don't. (Genesis 12:3)

I will vote for the most pro-debt reduction candidate, because the borrower is the servant to the lender.

(Proverbs 22:7)

I will vote for the most pro-wok candidate, because God says if a man won't work let him eat not.

(2 Thessalonians 3:10)

I will vote for the most pro-marriage candidate, because God is for marriage defined as between one man and one woman. (Genesis 2:24)

I will vote for the candidate who most closely believes that government's purpose is to reward good and punish evil. (Romans 13)

I will vote based as close as I can on the Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16)

The Sins of The Saints

Bernard of Clairvaux once mentioned an old man who, upon hearing about any professing Christian who fell into sin, would say to himself: "He fell today; I may fall tomorrow!" The apostle Paul commended the same mindset when he wrote, "let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall." (1 Corinthians 10:12)

There is great wisdom in not trusting our own ability to stand. When I was a boy, my father would often say, "The person I trust least of all is myself." It should shock us to hear a professing Christian say, "I would never do that," or "How could anyone do that?" Consider the following:

If Adam, an innocent man, could choose a piece of fruit over the infinitely valuable God (Genesis 3:6);  if Noah, the most righteous man of his day, could get so drunk that he passed out naked before his sons in his tent (Genesis 9:21);  if Abraham, the most faithful man of his day, could father a child with his wife's handmaiden (Genesis 16:1-4) and twice hand his wife over to other men (Genesis 12:11-15; 20:1-2);  if Sarah, the mother of promise, could laugh at the words of the God of promise and then lie to Him about doing so (Genesis 18:9-15);  if "righteous Lot" could greedily pick the most materialistic and sexually depraved place for himself and his family to live (Genesis 13:8-13), and could hand his daughters over to the sexually perverse men of the city (Genesis 19:4-8);  if Isaac, the son of promise, could show partiality to his oldest son because he liked his hunting skills (Genesis 25:28), and he, too, could hand his wife over to another man (Genesis 26:6-11); and if Jacob, the namesake of Israel, could swindle his brother for a birthright (Genesis 25:29-34), then so could I.

If Moses, the meekest man on the planet, could act in such sinful anger and unbelief that God would not let him into the Promised Land (Numbers 20:7-12);  if his successor Joshua, could disobediently covenant with pagans (Joshua 9);  if Gideon, the mighty man of valor, could fall into idolatry at the end of his life (Judges 8:22-27); and if Samson, the strongest man who ever lived, could be defeated by wine and women (Judges 14-16), then so could I. if David, the man after God's own heart, could commit adultery and premeditate the murder of one of his mighty men (2 Samuel 11);  if Solomon, the wisest man, could foolishly allow his heart to be led astray by a thousand women to worship foreign gods (1 Kings 11);  if Jeremiah, the weeping prophet, could charge God with deceiving His people (Jeremiah 4:10); and if Elijah, a prophet of Israel, could self-righteously run from the mission of God (Jonah 1-3), then so could I.

If John the Baptist, the forerunner of Christ, could doubt the identity of the One to whom he bore witness (Matthew 11:2-3); and if the Apostle Peter could try to stop Jesus from going to the cross (Matthew 16:21-23), deny Jesus (Luke 22:54-61), argue with the Lord about the gospel and its implications (John 13:6-10; Acts 10:9-16), and support division in the church over the doctrine of justification by faith alone (Galatians 2:11-21), then so could I.

If James and John could use Jesus to get to the top (Mark 10:35-37) and could want to call fire down from Heaven on those who did not believe the gospel (Luke 9:51-55); and if the Apostle John could twice fall down to worship angels (Revelation 19:9-10; Revelation 22:8-9), then so could I.

We must resist the temptation of thinking that we can stand in our own strength. We must depend on the grace of the One who said, "Apart from Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). The greatest believers are subject to great weaknesses. In no way do these truths give a license to sin; instead, they give a sober realization that by nature, "nothing good dwells in us." (Romans 7:18)

We must distrust ourselves, bear with the weak, and hold fast to Christ. We must flee to our Great High Priest, who was tempted in all points as we are, yet never sinned. We must go to Him for grace and mercy to withstand temptations, and we must go to Him for grace and mercy if we fall.

Cracks in Your Armor?

We are the light of the world, metaphorically and spiritually speaking as well. In this dark sinful world, we bring the light of hope to the unsaved world. A candle lit in the darkness. Light is the only element that can disperse and cancel out darkness. It works immediately and effectively. Romans 13:12 "The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light" Casting off the works of darkness in of itself is not sufficient to walking in the light, we are to put the armor of light. This means that the armor does not rest on a believer by chance or coincidence; it is a deliberate act by the believer to put it on. Ephesians 4:22-24 "that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

Derick Prince, a minister who has since passed on to be with the Lord, said in one of his books that when we enter into place (such as a hospital filled with disease and illness) that upon entering that hospital, every evil spirit eye is upon you. They see you clearly and know instantly who you are, a child of the living God. They watch intently to see why you are there. The spirit of cancer may ask, "Have you come to destroy the works I have laid?" and many demonic forces may ask the same question. They see you clearly because you adorn the armor of God, the armor of light. The breastplate of our armor is terribly important, because it protects our heart. It is the main source for the light within our armor of God which shines before us.

Christ, the Light of the heavens and earth, is within our hearts. It is what gives our armor shine in the spiritual realm. We are comprised of 3 parts, body, soul and spirit. Our spiritual being is always connected to God and God is light. God hears our prayer, sees what is in our minds and sees our everyday actions, but what He cares most is what is within our hearts. When we accepted the Lord within us, the fullness of God resided in our hearts. We are righteous because Christ is righteous, and that covenant is written upon our breastplate for all to see. All the armor of God (Ephesians 6:14-17) is given to us for protection from evil entities. In its perfection, it provides protection for every part of one's spiritual body to the maximum.

However, only in its pristine state can it effectively do this, therefore we need to inspect our armor daily to be sure it has no cracks, rust, corrosion or holes are in it. Otherwise, we may be allowing a passage for evil to enter in through that erosion and thereby weakening our ability to perform in the mission or commission received from God. There are many ways our armor can develop cracks or corrosion, like sin, disbelief, worldly compromise or even complacency in our lives. We must take inventory on ourselves daily to insure we have the full protection needed. The best way to do this is to come before the Lord in prayer and ask Him to cover us (and our armor) in His blood. It is by His blood that He shed on Calvary, that cleanses us. This will cleanse us of all sin, the ones we may know of and the ones we don't. Evil spirits cannot enter you nor possess you because you have the Holy Spirit inside you, but they can oppress you, cling onto you and try to erode your armor with their evil ways. If not detected and removed, it will begin to corrode your armor and eventually crack or open up the armor you put on. Taking inventory on oneself shall also be taking inventory on one's armor. We are in a spiritual war with the enemy.

Remember, every time you pray you are in essence declaring war on the enemy. If you pray for someone you are coming against the evil oppressions, they are trying to attach or deliver, and they will consider that act as an act of war. We do not need to fear them or their ways for we have full protection (our armor) against any onslaught, and we have authority and power of such evil (Luke 10:19) I remember a minister who once stated, " Once you enter where darkness resides, the enemy sees you and your light which shines in the darkness they have created. When they look upon you, because you have put on the armor of God, they immediately think you are God (because you have God's armor on) and they will run and hide. The only time they know you are not God, is when you open your mouth. This is why it is important to only speak to them using God's Word in deliverance or casting them out. Besides the armor of God (armor of light) we also have the sword of the Spirit, the Holy Spirit, as our offensive weapon. It too shines brightly before the enemy, and they know full and well how powerful it can be.

Yes, the enemy sees all that, however what they do not know is if you know all the weaponry you have and if you know how to effectively use them (Luke 10:19) So, in conclusion, Put on your armor (Ephesians 6:14-17) then check your armor for any defects, cracks or erosion, Know the authority and power you have at your disposal. You were fearfully made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), You have God's armor as well, so you are fully protected, and you have an army of God's angels around you plus the Lord Himself who goes before you in battle. Therefore, Victory is ours if we maintain all that we have and been given by the Lord. Check you armor daily, remove any cracks or erosion through prayer, for your armor is only effective when used correctly and with proper maintenance. Amen.

No Cradle Holds an Innocent One!

Adam fell, man's heart became entirely corrupt. "Every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time!" "Every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood." (Genesis 6:5, 8:21)

Now, corruption can only propagate corruption. When evil fills the heart, evil effects will soon appear. From tainted sources, tainted waters flow. The root proclaims the qualities of its fruit. When poison permeates the veins, the whole body sickens. The parent reproduces his own likeness. Hence every child is born in sin. No cradle holds an innocent one! Each offspring of the human family comes into the world dead towards God, corrupt in heart, prone to iniquity, void of all righteousness, a willing slave of his father, Satan, blinded in intellect, a pilgrim towards a diabolical land, a vessel fitted for destruction!

His heart has many tenants, but God is no longer there. The palace once so fair, is now overrun with weeds. Like Babylon in ruins, wild beasts of the wilderness roam there, and the houses are full of doleful creatures. (Isaiah 13:21, 22) May this darksome picture scare you from delusion's dream!

Reader, surely such is your birth state! Has your soul realized the dreadful truth? Has the life-giving Spirit quickened you with regenerating might? Are you a new creation in Christ Jesus? If so, then surely you will praise God for His marvelous mercy and grace in saving you.

A Word of Warning Against Worldly Conformity

"Adam, where are you?" Genesis 3:9

"What are you doing here, Elijah?" 1 Kings 19:9

To E. M., August 5, 1854.

My Beloved Friend,
The above questions came to my mind for my beloved friend, I know not why. This evening, I have heard a sermon from the last of these passages, and I must send you the substance of a few remarks, though not in the exact words. "What are you doing here, Elijah?" It may be said to some believers, "What are you doing here inactive and indolent in your Lord's cause? You were very lively in the service of Satan and the world. Why are you so lethargic in the service of Him who bought you with His blood, and knew what it was to be weary in working for you?"

Again, it may be said to some, "What are you doing here in a place, or in society, where your Lord is not loved, honored, or known?" Your soul will suffer, your spirituality will be withered, for it is a very tender plant; and it is easily injured. If the believer will be in worldly society, uncalled by Providence, his spirituality is sure to suffer blight. Ah! What are you doing here, Elijah? "What are you doing here?" it may be said again, when the believer is in the midst of mist and gloom, which hide the Savior from his view. What are you doing here? you whom I have ransomed you to whom I have manifested myself you whom the Spirit has sealed whom I have loved with an everlasting love what are you doing here with darkened evidence?

Is it not because you are looking into your own heart instead of looking unto Me, and coming unto Me, who am made unto your wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption? The Spirit may discover to us what is in our hearts to abase us and lay us low; but if we look into our hearts to find comfort or encouragement, then our evidence will be darkened, the clouds will gather quickly around us, and our dreariness will grow yet more dreary! What are you doing here, Elijah? We must look away from self and learn that we are not to live upon past experience, however real, or upon past manifestations, however bright; but we must be seeking for fresh incomings of grace.

It is a great lesson which we are very slow in learning, not to live upon grace received.

Science ...

Science says we need at least four basic elements to survive.

1. Water

2. Air

3. Food

4. Light

Look what the Bible tells us about the LORD:

1. I am the Living Water. (John 7:38)

2. I am the Breath of Life. (Genesis 2:7)

3. I am the Bread of Life. (John 6:35)

4. I am the Light of the World. (John 8:12)

Science is correct.  We need Jesus to live!

John 11:25-26 ...  Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:  And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

The Coming Future

During Noah's generation (2400BC), the world population stood between 4-10 billion. In that entire length of time, God found no one righteous; in other words, no single human living during that period served God except for Noah, who scripture states were unblemished and a preacher.

The world was evil, ruled by evil beings. This gives us two ideas to consider:

1. Noah remained faithful to God while the world (inhabitants) rejected God.
2. Jesus refers back to Noah to give us a glimpse of OUR world in the coming future, where something significant will occur that will make Christianity and all other religions currently - nonexistent.

This explains why we see subtle cracks in the faith today, with young people beginning to depart the faith as we move deeper into the 21st century.

Matthew 24:37 ... But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Noah's Ark!!

Finally, the frightful morning began! The heavens gathered blackness. Angry tempests conflicted in the skies. The lightnings flashed over the world! Word was spread, that Noah and his family had entered into the ark. The ungodly then began to fear! Before long, floods of water poured from the sky. Some now began to turn their eyes towards the ark; others stood doubting; others still dared to scoff! The waters go on to increase. The rivers fill and start to overflow. The waters begin to rise in the streets. Some flee into their houses; others, more intimidated, hasten to the hills! Others are now convinced, and with dreadful fright, are seen wading towards the ark! The fountains of the great deep are now broken up! The waters rise more rapidly and begin to rush with impetuous force. With difficulty they stand against the stream. They struggle for their lives to reach the ark!

Thousands come some wading, some swimming, some sinking, some hanging onto the ark with the grasp of death all screaming for admission! But it is too late! Time was, when the ark was open and they might have entered in, but that time is past! Where are now those tongues which derided the enormous vessel and the man who built it? Now what do you think of him, who for more than a century has borne the character of a fool and madman! They would give a thousand worlds to be in his condition now! Those nearest to the ark cry and plead for admission, but in vain! The waters roar! The ark is lifted up! They sink and are seen no more!

By this time, every wretch on earth is thoroughly convinced. Hear their cries from the tops of the houses, which are answered by wails from those on the hills. See the multitudes who have fled to the mountains. How like frightened sheep they crowd together! Now the waters, roaring and foaming, have reached their feet! They flee up to the highest ridge, but the floods pursue them there! Some are able to climb the lofty oaks, and the waves overtake them there! They flee to the highest branches, and for a moment have time to reflect on their former madness: "How could I disbelieve the Lord's prophet? Where is now the ark which I scorned? Where am I going?

O eternity! eternity! What a dreadful God have I despised!" On the topmost bough, the impetuous torrent sweeps them away! Their hold is broken, and they sink to rise no more! The ark floats by, and sails over the heads of the revilers and persecutors! Only that blessed family in the ark are safe! The same terrors will seize an unbelieving world when Jesus comes again!

Matthew 24:37-39 ... For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

God Spoke...

When God wanted to create fish, he spoke to the sea.
When God wanted to create trees, he spoke to earth.
But when God wanted to create man, he turned to Himself. God said: "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness."

If you take a fish out of the water, it will die.
When you remove a tree from the ground, it also dies.
Likewise, when man disconnects himself from God, he dies.

God is our natural environment. We were created to live in His presence. We have to stay connected to God because only in Him does life exist.

Let us remain connected with God, evermore.

Genesis 9:13-15 ...  I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.  And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:  And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
