Chain Breaker!!

Chains are an obvious symbol of imprisonment. In physical terms they restrict us, hold us down and back and signify our captive state. In spiritual terms they do more or less the same. While many of us won't experience physical chains, we're by no means immune to the impact of spiritual chains which harm our spiritual growth. These kinds of shackles are just as unmissable and detrimental to our freedom because they affect our behavior, our outlook and our faith.

The Bible features numerous accounts of physical chain breaking but it also is full of stories about people who had their spiritual chains broken by the Lord. These types of chains manifested in various ways demons, sickness, sin. But these biblical stories aren't just documented so that we know what Jesus was able to do for people that followed him in the past, they're also there to show us what he can do for us today. Jesus comes to set us free and destroy the chains that bind us.

Psalm 116:16 ... Lord, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds.

Acts 16:25-26 ... And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.  And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

Pray For The President

On Jan. 20, Donald J. Trump will be inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States. Trump becomes only the second president in history to win non-consecutive terms. He received more than 77 million votes, the most ever by a Republican candidate as voters expressed concern that our nation is in trouble.

Pray for Donald J. Trump.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 ...  I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;  For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Christmas ~ A Personal Promise

Jesus fulfilled Messianic prophecy when He came to earth, and that’s the reason we can trust Him in everything.

If someone’s birth was predicted thousands of years ahead of time and then announced by a heavenly host on the night of his arrival, wouldn’t you consider this event extremely significant in human history? Yet for too many people, Christmas is simply a time for festive parties, decorated trees, and wrapped presents. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with these expressions unless they replace the real significance of the celebration. The truth is, Christmas is more than an event; it’s a promise offered to mankind, and it originated long before that first Christmas night. In fact, God planned this entire event before the foundation of the world. He foreknew the coming child and all the details of His birth, life, and death.

[Charles Stanley]

1 Peter: 19-21 ... But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

5 Steps to Voting as a Christian

 Yes, VOTE.

But always keep your focus on the Lord.

Hebrews 2:2 ...  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

True Hero of The Titanic

The night the Titanic sank in 1912 on April 14th, 1,528 people went into the frigid waters. John Harper, after putting his only daughter on a lifeboat, was seen swimming frantically to people in the water leading them to Jesus before the hypothermia became fatal. Rev. Harper swam up to one young man who had climbed up on a piece of debris. Rev. Harper asked him between breaths, "Are you saved?" The young man replied that he was not. Harper then tried to lead him to Christ only to have the young man who was near shock, reply: no. John Harper then took off his life jacket and threw it to the man and said, "Here then, you need this more than I do" and swam away to other people. A few minutes later Harper swam back to the young man and succeeded in leading him to salvation.

Of the 1,528 people that went into the water that night, six were rescued by the lifeboats. One of them was this young man on the debris. Four years later, at a survivors meeting, this young man stood up and in tears recounted how John Harper had led him to Christ. Rev. Harper had tried to swim back to help other people, yet because of the intense cold, had grown too weak to swim. His last words before going under in the frigid waters were "Believe on the name of the Lord Jesus and you will be saved."

Does Hollywood remember this man? No. Oh well, no matter. This servant of God did what he had to do. While other people were trying to buy their way onto the lifeboats and were selfishly trying to save their own lives, John Harper gave up his life so that others could be saved. John Harper knew what it meant to live life with urgency.

5 Ways to Rekindle Your Relationship with Christ this Holiday Season

Christmas is the perfect time of year to rekindle your relationship with Christ – but you’ll have to be intentional about it. The more effort you put into focusing on your relationship with Christ, the more you’ll experience his love. That great love of his is what made the first Christmas happen!

1. Deepen your prayer life. Since prayer is the main way you communicate with God, and frequent communication is vital to build any kind of close relationship, make prayer a high priority every day during this holiday season. Evaluate your life in fresh ways that Christmas brings to mind, such as how much compassion you have in your heart and how well you’re dealing with stress. Ask God to show you specific attitudes and behaviors in your life that are interfering with your intimacy with him. Then confess those sins and receive God’s forgiveness. Pray for God to empower you, through his Holy Spirit, to grow to become more like the person he wants you to become. Pray for guidance about how to cultivate more of the fruit of the Holy Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – in your life during this Christmas season.

2. Seek to learn more about God’s different names through every Christmas activity you include on your schedule. Before committing your time and energy to a Christmas season activity, ask “How will this help me move closer to Christ?” If you don’t see a clear, specific way that a certain activity will do so, don’t give it a place on your holiday season schedule. Invest only in activities that will truly help you get to know God better. Focusing on activities that help you reflect on God’s names mentioned in the Bible will rekindle your love for Christ in fresh ways. Just as dating couples love to learn more about each other’s qualities, you can passionately get to know more about your first love, Christ, by learning the qualities that his names express. While you’re eating Christmas cookies, for instance, you can reflect on how Christ is the “Bread of Life.” (John 6:35) As you drive around enjoying Christmas lights, you can celebrate that Christ is the “Light of the World.” (John 8:12) If you’re feeling sad about dysfunction in your family at holiday events, you can consider how Christ is your “everlasting father” and “prince of peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

3. Practice the presence of God. Since the essence of Christmas is God’s incarnation with humanity, the Christmas season is the perfect time to practice connecting with God – who is constantly present with you – throughout each day. The habit of tuning into God’s presence in mundane moments comes from a classic Christian book called The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence, who worked in the kitchens of a monastery in 1600s Paris and wrote about how God is always with people in the work of their daily lives. In his book, Brother Lawrence advised about relating to Christ: “Lift up your heart to him during your meals and in company; the least little remembrance will always be the most pleasing to him. One need not cry out very loudly; he is nearer to us than we think.” Remind yourself often of Christ’s presence with you as Immanuel (which means “God is with us”) – thanks to Christmas! Whenever you think of that reality, take a few moments to communicate with Christ in prayer, wherever you happen to be at the time.

4. Simplify your lifestyle amid Christmas commercialism. The original Christmas in Bethlehem was distinguished by simplicity. Rather than coming to Earth into a family of wealth and status, Christ chose to come into a family of poor and humble – yet devoutly faithful – people: Joseph and Mary. Christ clearly valued spiritual riches over material riches, so it’s ironic that his birthday has become so full of commercialism. This year, resist cultural pressures to buy and experience as much as possible. Scale back to make room in your lifestyle to enjoy simple pleasures this holiday season, like drinking a cup of hot cocoa while listening to Christmas carols or taking a walk around your neighborhood to look at Christmas lights. When friends and family members come to visit you, don’t worry about trying to impress them with elaborate hospitality. Instead, relax and simply enjoy each other’s company however works best for you.

5. Give to the poor and get to know some of them. Christ made it clear in Matthew 25:40 how closely he identifies with poor people: Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” When you obey his call to help poor people, you can’t help but grow closer to him, because you’re doing what’s close to his heart. During the holiday season, you’ll probably be deluged by opportunities to reach out to the poor, either by donating your time through volunteer work or contributing your money to a worthy charity. Pray for guidance on which specific ways would be best for you to focus on, and when you get some clarity about that, don’t hesitate to follow through. If possible, try to get to know some of the poor people you’re helping personally. Spend some time with them, listen to their stories, and develop friendships. That way you can continue to be a blessing to them – and them to you – beyond the Christmas season. Ask God to teach you more about his heart through the experiences you have given this season. Pray for the ability to become a more generous person because Christ has been so generous with you, giving you the ultimate gift: salvation.

"A Christian Pumpkin"

I am a Jack O' Lantern, My light will shine so bright.

For I am a Christian pumpkin, my symbols tell what's right.

My nose is like the cross, on which our Savior died.

To set us free from sin, sin, we need no longer hide.

My mouth is like a fish, the whole wide world to show.

That Christians live in this house, and love their Savior so!

The story starts at Christmas, my eyes are like the star.

That shone on Baby Jesus, and wise men saw from far.

My color it is orange, just like the big bright sun.

That rose on Easter Day, along with Gods' own Son.

And so on Halloween, let's set our pumpkins out.

And tell the trick or treaters, what Gods' love is all about!

[Author Unknown]

Matthew 5:16 ... Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Dead.

You are dead without Christ.

Ephesians 2:1-5 ...  And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;  Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:  Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

"Be Careful What You Say"

I made this image (yes that's me in the photo growling at the screen lol), as a reminder that many times we are tempted to say mean and hateful things online. I think oftentimes the Holy Spirit is gently pulling us away and telling us to stop what we are typing. However, that gentle tug might be completely missed if we are letting the anger burn within. I hope this is an encouragement to watch you say and be willing to let the Spirit lead you!

Ephesians 4:29 ...  Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Nature's Church

Did you ever see the mountains that are covered up with snow, or see a sun set in the West with purple afterglow?

Have you ever seen a newborn calf a-wobbling to its feet, and though it's only minutes old it knows just where to eat?

You can't climb upon a saddle horse and cross the prairie sod, or see an eagle on the wing and not believe in God.

A cowboy doesn't worship in a building made of stone, but worships with his Maker out with nature all alone.

His church is in the great outdoors; the valley, heaven's gate, his favorite hymn's a coyote that is calling to its mate.

He makes his own communion as a choir of songbirds sing, as he cups his hands and drinks the fresh cold water from a spring.

With the budding of the springtime and with autumn's goldenrod a cowboy lives with nature and the wonders of his God.

So, when you hear a meadowlark that's singing from his perch, he's inviting you to worship with him there at Nature's Church.

 [Yvonne Hollenbeck]

Psalm 29:2 ... Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

Don't Discount Him

So many within the church can’t make hide or tail of Trump in recent days, but yet this guy shows up at a church last night - unannounced - and has the pastor pray for him, then leaves without making a speech.

Folks, sinners don’t do that. Men who don’t truly believe doesn’t make this sort of desire. But men whose been touched by God do.

I don’t know where Trump stands with Christ, that’s not my call to make. But seeing this makes me all the more certain of one thing, his heart seems to be reaching out for something.

Stand by him, pray for him. But don’t discount him.

[Christopher Gregory]

God is a Car

Yes, God is real, and He has a sense of humor.

This morning, having a cup of coffee, waking up and beginning my day talking with the Lord, we were discussing one of the mysteries of God - the Godhead. The Trinity has always been something that many have a hard time putting a handle on to understand, so the Lord (in a humorous way) illustrated it in a very simple way.

I just finished an art piece called "As One" which shows in visual form, the Trinity or Godhead. However, although it is a visual representation of this mystery, it does not explain the Godhead in complete clarity, so the Lord made that very simple. He said, It is like a car, moving about, shinning it's light across the darkened countryside. From a distance, it appears as just some moving, bouncing light that moves from here to there. As you get closer, you see it is not just a light, but a vehicle, and if you get right up close to it you see this vehicle is made up of different parts.

The engine (The Father) is the heart of the vehicle. It has a door (Jesus Christ) which allows people to come inside the car and travel across the terrain to their destination within the vehicle. Then it has headlights (The Holy Spirit) that lights the way through the darkness around. Together - it is a car made up of 3 distinct parts, but as a whole it is single - a car.

To those who merely see it as a light bouncing about the country side are those who have perhaps witnessed some of the miracles of God, but never got close enough to understand who He really is.

Then there are some who got close enough to see it is in fact a car and not just some bouncing light, but not close enough (intimate enough) to feel the gentle rumble and purr of the engine, or the feel the comfort of the cushioned seats.

Then there are those who have ridden in the car many times. They can tell you all the fine details of the dashboard, the interior lining and the comfort and protection of riding in the car. They can tell you there is no limit to the amount of people the car can pick up along the way and hold. No matter how many people inside, it is still just as comfortable as it is with just a few. The world just seems different riding in a Rolls Royce then on foot.

Yes, God does have a great sense of humor, and He is even big enough to poke fun at Himself too. I love Him. Perhaps not as much as He loves me, but as much as I am capable of. His grand sense of humor is only one way I love Him... let me count the ways....

Sincerely,

Danny Hahlbohm
