Sin No More!!

Sin dwells in hell, and holiness in heaven. Remember that every temptation is from the devil, to make you like himself. Remember when you sin, that you are learning and imitating of the devil and are so far like him. And the end of all, is that you may feel his pains. If hellfire be not good, then sin is not good.

[Richard Baxter]

James 4:7 ... Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

John 8:11-12 ... She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

1 Peter 1:16 ... Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Only One Way!!

Jesus did not call you to be Catholic, Baptist, Pentecostal, Muslim, Buddhist, or any other denomination.

The Lord calls you to be Born Again!  He is the only way to Heaven!

John 14:6 ... Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 3:5-7 ... Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Choose Life!!

If you reject Jesus Christ, then you reject your only way into Heaven.

Choose wisely.

Deuteronomy 30:19 ...  I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

Romans 6:23 ...  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

John 14:6 ... Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Some of Us Like That Eagle!!

A gentleman had an eagle which had been caught when young and brought up in a cage like a domestic bird. At length the owner was going away over the sea and decided to give the eagle its freedom. So, he brought it out of its cage, and it walked about, but seemed to have no thought whatever of flying away.

The gentleman was disappointed. At length he lifted the great bird to the garden wall. It stood there a moment, and then looked up toward the sun. It seemed suddenly to remember that it was an eagle, whose home was amid the crags and the cliffs. A moment more and it lifted one wing, then the other, and was gone soaring away into the blue of the sky!

Some of us like that eagle, shut up in the cage, using only its feet, not knowing it had wings, and that its true home was in the heavens. Let us lift up our eyes to the heavens there is our home. We were made for God. Let us try our soul's wings; we were made to fly! It is a desecration of life to live amid the dust when we were created for flights in the blue heavens!

[J.R. Miller]

Isaiah 40:31 ... But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Colossians 3:1-3 ... If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Preparing a Place!!

What a wondrous thought! Jesus is now busied in Heaven in His people's behalf! He can find no abode in all His wide dominions, befitting as a permanent dwelling for His ransomed ones.

He says, "I will make a new heaven and a new earth. I will found a special kingdom. I will rear eternal mansions expressly for those I have redeemed with my blood!"

Orphaned pilgrims, dry your tears! Soon the sighs of a groaning and burdened creation will be heard no more. Soon He will come again, to receive those who followed Him in His cross, to be everlasting partakers with Him in His crown!

[John MacDuff]

 ✞  ✞  ✞

John 14:2-3 ... In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Philippians 1:21-23 ... For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.  But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

The Spyglass of Faith!

This world is not our rest. It is only our temporary lodging-place, our battleground to fight sin and Satan, our vineyard in which to labor for our Master until sundown, our training-school for the development of character and growth in grace. In a little while, perhaps within a few days for some of us the veil which hides the eternal world may drop and the gates of the Father's house may open before our astonished vision!

If heaven is ready for Christ's redeemed people, then surely, they should be making ready for heaven. We ought to think more about our everlasting home. If our treasures are there, then our hearts should be there also in frequent and joyful anticipations. A Christian, to whom Jesus Christ is real, and the glories of the world to come are real, and who has set his affections set on things above must inevitably have some deep meditations about his eternal home, and his magnificent inheritance. He loves to read about it, and gathers up eagerly the few grand, striking things which his Bible tells him about that glorious City of God.

Sometimes, when cares press heavily, or bodily pains wax sharp, or bereavements darken his house he gets homesick, and he says, "Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away and be at rest!" (Psalm 55:6) Such devout meditations do not prove any Christian to be a dreamy mystic. They are not the pious sentimentalizing's of mourners to whom this world has lost all its charm; nor of enthusiasts whose religion evaporates in mere emotion. The hundred-handed Paul constantly reminds his fellow-workers that "Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ!" (Philippians 3:20)

It is no wonder that some professors do not catch more distinct glimpses of the celestial world as their vision is obscured. A very small object when held close to the eye will hide the noonday sun. Just so, a professor may hold a dollar so close to the eye of his soul as to shut out both Christ and heaven! Fish shut up in a dark cavern for a long time become blind. In the same way, we will lose the faculty of spiritual sight if we shut ourselves up in a cavern of carking worldliness!

Those whose hearts are in heaven, and who keep it constantly before their view, have abundant sources of spiritual joy. They renew their strength as they push upward and heavenward. What is it to them that the road is long; that the hills of difficulty are steep; that there are often lions in the way; that there are crosses to be carried; and that not far ahead is that river of death over which there is no bridge! None of these things disturb them! Heaven lies at the end of the way clothed in its glorious light!

From the hilltops they can, with the spyglass of faith, bring heaven so near that they can see its gates, and its streets of shining gold, and the Lamb on His throne! These views of our imperishable inheritance of glory, ought to quicken our zeal greatly. The time is short and shortening every day! It is certain, that he who doesn't love Christ doesn't love heaven; and he who doesn't love heaven will never see heaven. A godly life is just a tarrying and a toiling in this earthly tent for Christ until we go into the heavenly mansions with Christ! Brethren! the miles to heaven are few and short; let us be found busy in heart and hand when the summons sounds, "Come up here!" And they rose to heaven! (Revelation 11:12)

[Theodore Cuyler]

Micah 2:10 ... Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction.

Beliefs...

You are free to believe whatever you want to believe.

But the Scriptures say ...

 Life is short.
 Death is real.
 Hell is hot.
 Eternity is long.
 Only Jesus saves.

James 4:14 ... Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Hebrews 9:27 ... And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Revelation 20:15 ...  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Ecclesiastes 3:14 ...  I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.

Acts 4:12 ... Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

"The Joy"

When the Christian has passed the valley of life, and is done with mortal care and grief, the Savior will welcome him home to glory with this joyful invitation, "Enter into the joy of your Lord." Then begins the heavenly joy of the believer. He rests with Jesus and enters into the joy of his Lord. And what is this joy? What is there about it that is so attractive? It is a joy unspeakable and full of glory. The pen cannot describe it, nor the tongue declare it. It is the joy of being with Christ, the joy of possessing the heavenly inheritance, a fullness of joy.

The joy of heaven is full, satisfying, and eternal. It is ecstatic joy. It transports the ransomed soul with ineffable delights! This joy is to be found in the blissful presence of Christ. Blessed Jesus! You are the source and center of heavenly joy. Enable me to fix my heart upon you. Bestow upon me, your unworthy servant, the joys of your salvation. Let me not wander one moment from the path of life. Guide me safely through the wilderness, over Jordan, until, landed on Canaan's happy shores, I see you face to face, and in your presence, taste, through eternal ages, the joys of a redeemed soul. "In your presence," cries the Psalmist, "is fullness of joy."

There is an abundance to lift every soul. There will be no lack of joy in heaven. The saints will always "be joyful in glory." How ravishing will be the joys of the redeemed in the mansions of glory! What ineffable joy will fill the soul of the believer, when he sits down with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, in the kingdom of God when he reigns with Immanuel on his throne when he views all heaven's bliss as his! Amid such joys as these, surely his enraptured soul must be lost in wonder, love, and praise.

But the joy of the glorified saint in the presence of Christ is beyond human comprehension or knowledge.

[David Harsha]

Psalm 16:11 ... Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Marriage Made in Heaven

Outside the jasper walls, peering in at His loving family, A glowing contrast to the ashes and waste that surrounds me. I stand in rags and wounds. To my amazement the beautiful young groom holds out His hand and says, "I love you." "Me, a rebellious leper?" "Yes, take my hand, Come to Me".

"But I can't. I've done my own thing, Gone my ways and now I see. I am dying alone, destitute." "Take My hand. Come." " I can't! I'm not worthy. My skin crawls with filth!" "Shh, My love, take my hand."

I tentatively reach out and touch His gentle pierced hand. He draws me into Him and He into me. I am His bride. I partake with His family. Not left behind, not second place but always and forever blended and united, joint heirs.

[Mary Jane Andrews]

Romans 8:17 ... And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Where is My Mamma?

What makes Heaven attractive for us? It won't be the pearly gates! It won't be the streets paved with transparent gold! These would not satisfy us! If these were all we would not want to stay in Heaven forever.

I heard the other day; of a little girl whose mother was very sick. While she was sick, one of the neighbors took the child away to stay with her, until the mother would be well again. But instead of getting better the mother died! They thought it best, that they should not tell the child nor take her home, until the funeral was all over.

So, a while afterward, they brought the little girl home. First, she went into the sitting-room to find her mother; then she went into the parlor; and then she went from one end of the house to the other and could not find her mother. At last, she said, "Where is my mamma?" And when they told her that her mamma had died, the little girl wanted to go back to the neighbor's house again. Home had lost its attractions to her since her mother was no longer there!

Just so it is not the streets of gold and the pearly gates that are going to make Heaven attractive. It is the being with Jesus, our beloved Redeemer!

[D. L. Moody]

One Thing You Lack!

He who searched the heart, knew what the one thing lacking was; and hence put His probing finger on the defect, and made the young man see himself in a truer light than he had ever seen himself before. What was the result? "At this, the man's face fell." What did he do? "He went away sad." Why? "Because he had great wealth."

The one thing which he lacked was a willingness to give up his besetting sin! That besetting sin was covetousness. He preferred to keep his possessions, rather than give them to the poor; he preferred the treasure on earth, to the treasure in Heaven; he preferred ease, to taking up a cross; he preferred the following of his own will, to following Jesus. This most instructive case shows us how near, how very near, a person may be to the kingdom of Heaven and yet fall short of it!

They may lack but one thing: the giving up of a besetting sin; the willingness to make a personal sacrifice for Christ; the refusal to take up some cross; the drawing back from a full following of Jesus. Some one single sin, some one single difficulty may thus obstruct the soul's entrance into Heaven and prevent one from becoming an altogether Christian.

One sin deliberately persisted in, will certainly keep your soul out of Heaven! One known duty deliberately disregarded, will surely secure your condemnation! And a refusal to take up a cross and bear it after Jesus, must result in being only an almost Christian, and so fail of eternal life!

[William Bacon Stevens]

Mark 10:21-22 ... Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.  And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

The Living and The Dead.

If the Living knew what the Dead knew, the entire world would follow Jesus the Christ.

Luke 16:22-23 ... And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

Matthew 25:46 ...  And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Mark 9:47 ...  And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

Made for Frivolities?

Were you made only to be a machine for digging holes, laying bricks, or cutting out pieces of wood? Were you created only to stand at a counter and measure or weigh out goods? Do you think your God made you for that and that only? Is this the chief end of man to earn so many dollars a week, and try to make ends meet? Is that all immortal men were made for?

As a man with a soul, capable of thought and judgment and not a mere animal like a dog, nor a machine like a steam engine; can you stand up and look at yourself, and say, "I believe I am perfectly fulfilling my destiny"? God has made man that he may glorify him and whatever else man accomplishes, if he attains not to this end, his life is a disastrous failure!

Others are lovers of pleasure. They are merry as the birds, their life is as the flight of a butterfly, which lightly floats from flower to flower, according to its own sweet will. It cannot be that an immortal spirit was made for frivolities spending all its time on the playthings of the world. So great a thing as an immortal soul could not have been made by God with no higher object than to spend itself upon trifles as light as air.

Oh, pause a while, you are a careless, godless one! There is something more than the fool's laugh. All things are not a comedy. Death and Heaven and Hell are serious, and should not life be? The charms of music, the merriment of the mirthful assembly, the beauties of art, and the delights of banqueting there must be something more for you than these. Something more must be required of you than that you should waste your precious time from morn to night upon nothing but to please yourself!

[Charles H. Spurgeon]

Micah 6:8 ... He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

The More I See of Jesus.

The more I see of Jesus, the more He opens to me His loving hear the deeper is my sorrow for sin. I lie down in the dust at His feet closer than ever I did before. I can truly say I abhor myself in dust and ashes before Him. My heart seems ready to melt into contrition in view of the ten thousand sins, willful and aggravating that I have committed against Him who loved me with an everlasting love, and with loving kindness drew me to Himself.

So eternal and deep, so sovereign and boundless is the love of Jesus, that angels cannot fathom it! He is nothing but sincere, constant, and unabating love to the weakest and most unworthy of all His little flock. I feel such a weariness of this world that nothing here gives me anything more than a momentary, passing pleasure and it is gone at a glance.

Oh, to have such a Friend as Jesus, who feels all our sorrows, carries all our burdens; and has promised to bring us safely through this trying world, and place us at last at His own right hand, where neither sickness nor sorrow shall ever come!

Oh, for Heaven! Nothing else will satisfy my longing soul, but the sight of Him it loves! Jesus is all in all to me, and He will be all in all through eternity! Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name!

[Mary Winslow]

Job 42:5-6 ... I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

"Consider Your Ways"

God commands you to consider, and you cannot neglect to do so, but you sin. Your circumstances require it of you, and you cannot neglect to do so, but you must be losers thereby. God complains, "My people do not consider!" Inconsideration has ruined thousands and will ruin thousands more. But shall it ruin you? It will, if you give way to it. Let me entreat you to do so no longer.

Consider that you are immortal and must live forever. Your BODY will die, and perhaps soon. But not so your SOUL, it never dies. Death changes its place, but not its nature. It leaves earth for Heaven, or for Hell! It lives as much when the body is dead, as it did before. It is conscious, and capable of enjoying the highest pleasures, or of enduring the most dreadful torments! And one or the other will be its lot. Heaven, or Hell, happiness, or misery, always follows upon death! Surely an immortal being ought to consider: Where shall I be after death? What shall I be? Among whom shall I have my eternal portion?

Is it rational to confine our attention to the present time and the present world, when time bears no comparison to eternity; and our stay in this present world must be brief? Consider that you are a sinner: You have broken God's law. You have incurred God's displeasure. You are condemned by God's Word. You deserve God's wrath. Your heart is alienated from God. You act in opposition to God. You lie absolutely at God's mercy, and at any moment He could cut you down, and send you to Hell. You have no right to expect anything but justice at His hands! And if He dealt with you after your sins, and rewarded you according to your iniquities, your doom would be indescribably dreadful!

Reader! "Consider your ways!" Consider that you are immortal, and that you must live somewhere forever! Consider that you are a sinner, and that you cannot live in Heaven as such! Consider that you may be saved, for the Lord Jesus Christ is both able and willing to save sinners! Consider that you can only be saved by sincere faith in Christ! Consider that you must denounce your own righteousness and rely solely on His finished work! Consider that if you are saved by Christ, you will live to Christ. He will be your Lord, as well as your Savior. He will be your example, as well as your atoning sacrifice! Consider that faith is the root of holiness, and a holy life alone proves our faith to be genuine.

"This is what the Lord Almighty says: Consider your ways!"

[James Smith]

Haggai 1:7 ... Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.

This is Too Much!!

Only to be permitted to contemplate such a being as Jehovah, to ponder goodness, holiness, justice, mercy, patience and sovereignty personified and condensed; to ponder them united with eternity, infinite power, unerring wisdom, omnipresence, and all sufficiency; to ponder all these natural and moral perfections indissolubly united and blended in sweet harmony in one pure, spiritual being, and that being placed on the throne of the universe to ponder this would be happiness enough to fill the mind of any creature in existence!

But in addition to this, to have this ineffable Being for my God, my portion, my all; to be permitted to say, "This God is my God forever and ever!" to have His resplendent countenance smile upon me; to be encircled in His everlasting arms of power and faithfulness and love; to hear His voice saying to me, "I am yours and you are Mine! Nothing shall ever pluck you from My hands or separate you from My love, but you shall be with Me where I am, behold My glory, and live to reign with Me forever and ever!"

This is too much! It is honor, it is glory, it is happiness too overwhelming, too transporting for mortal minds to conceive, or for mortal frames to support! In Heaven, the saints will be entirely lost and swallowed up in God, and their minds will be so completely absorbed in the contemplation of His ineffable, infinite, uncreated glories! Oh, then, what must it be, to escape forever from error and ignorance and darkness and sin into the region of bright, unclouded, eternal day!

What must it be, to behold your God and Redeemer face to face! What must it be, to continually to contemplate, with immortal strength glories so dazzlingly bright, that one moment's view of them would now, like a stream of lightning, turn your frail bodies into dust! What must it be, to see the eternal volume of the divine counsels, the mighty map of the divine mind, unfolded to your eager, piercing gaze! What must it be, to explore the heights and depths, the lengths and breadths of the Redeemer's love and still to see new wonders, glories, and beauties pouring upon your minds in constant, endless succession, calling forth new songs of praise songs in which you will unite with the innumerable choirs of angels, with the countless myriads of the redeemed, all shouting with a voice like the voice of many waters, "Alleluia, for the Lord God omnipotent reigns!"

These Eternal Fountains!

Numerous are the sources of sorrow here on earth but God will dry them all up in Heaven. There will be no mourning Christian to drop tears there, "for all sorrow and sighing shall flee away!" There is nothing in that happy residence to distress or annoy.  Jeremiah will utter no plaintive language there. Transgressors will grieve the holy no more. Bartimaeus is the poor blind beggar no more. Lazarus's sores have been replaced by immortal beauty. The weeping widow is no longer crushed to the dust by the heavy hand of poverty. The orphan child is no longer forsaken and homeless. Pinching poverty and wasting disease are unknown. The distressing complaint will never accost the ear, "I am sick!" The sting of death and the terrors of the grave will never present themselves there.

There are no graves in the land of eternal life. There is no death of friends there. Martha and Mary go to no beloved brother's grave to weep. Yonder, there is no deceitful heart, no secret foe, no fascinating world, no artful Satan! The former things have passed away, and the era of immortality has arrived. God shall give them everything calculated to secure, continue, and increase their happiness. "He will lead them to springs of living water," which shall never be exhausted.

A spring is termed living water, because constantly bubbling up, and running on. These "springs of living water" indicate endless sources of happiness, which Christ will supply to His redeemed people from His own infinite plenitude. These eternal fountains will make an infinite variety for the enjoyments of the blessed. There will be no sameness, and therefore no weariness to the spirit.

Every moment will open a new source of pleasure. And as God is infinite, so His attributes are infinite, and throughout infinity more and more of those attributes will be unveiled and the discovery of each will be a new fountain of enjoyment. These sources will be ever opening through all eternity and yet, through all eternity, there will still remain in the absolute perfections of the Godhead, an infinity of them still to be opened!

[William Nicholson]

Revelation 7:17 ...  For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

John Lennon

John Lennon was tragically shot and killed in NYC 41 years ago. John was a supremely gifted singer/songwriter and leader of the legendary rock band, The Beatles. John was abandoned by both his mother and father and was on a search since his childhood. His song with the Beatles, "Help!" was just that. A cry for help from a searching young man.

John is remembered for many things, such as saying that the "Beatles were more popular then Jesus".  But here is something you may not know about him. John made a profession of faith to follow Jesus Christ. His diary was filled with entries about it and he even wrote at least two Gospel-themed songs. He did appear to walk away from it later, but did he ever stop believing in Jesus? I don't know.

John's last record was titled, "Double Fantasy". In one song that did not make it on the LP called "Help Me To Help Myself" John wrote “So I'm asking this question in the hope that you'll be kind 'Cause I know deep inside I was never satisfied, oh no, no Lord, help me, Lord, Please, help me, Lord, yeah yeah yeah.”

After John was shot, he was driven to the hospital in a police car. He was still conscious. Did John call out to Jesus in those last moments of his life on earth? Again, I don't know. But if he did, God heard his prayer and answered it.

I believe There will be three big surprises when we get to Heaven. Some of the people we thought would be there won’t be. Some of the people we never thought would be there will be. And surprise number three, because of God’s faithful promises, you and I will also be there.

In Heaven ...

In Heaven, the Righteous will enjoy an uninterrupted repose. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on,"  "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them." (Revelation 14:13) "There remains a rest for the people of God." (Hebrews 4:9) It is not however, the repose of apathy, or of indolence, or of selfishness, to which the righteous are destined in their final glorification. It is a rest from the burden of sin, a rest from the toil of labor, a rest from the dangers of warfare, a rest from the anguish of guilt, a rest from the torment of fear, a rest from the power of temptation, a rest from internal disquietude, a rest from external assault from the world.

In Heaven: the passions that have agitated the bosoms of mankind in the present world, will be unknown; the follies that have torn their very heart-strings asunder, will eternally cease; the woes that have depopulated empires and filled them with blood and carnage, will be no more; rebellion will have spent all its force; the iron rod of oppression will be broken; the battle trumpet will have blown its final blast; calamities will have come to a perpetual end; the olive branch of peace shall be continually waved on the wall of mount Zion; and the Prince of peace Himself shall secure its perfect tranquility.

 [William Nicholson]

Job 3:17 ... There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.
