Only One Way!!

Jesus did not call you to be Catholic, Baptist, Pentecostal, Muslim, Buddhist, or any other denomination.

The Lord calls you to be Born Again!  He is the only way to Heaven!

John 14:6 ... Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 3:5-7 ... Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

The True Savior

Who has the markings (literal and in character) of a real savior?

There is only one. It's easy to see Him if you just look!

Acts 4:12 ... Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

John 14:6 ...  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Romans 14:11 ... For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

Religion is Nuts!!

When church becomes a social club where only those who fit our criteria of what a Christian is supposed to look like, dress like, or how they make a living; when the very people who Christ brings out of the gutter are the same ones who cause us to shun them, then we don’t have Christ, we have religion.

Not everyone in Hollywood is a predator, or a satanist, nor is every person who succeeds in their craft a pawn in the dark world of human trafficking. They are just people who have families, who go to work each and every day just like you and me. Religion is nuts, but nuttier is the one who promotes it. The more you get caught up in religion, the more difficult it will be for you to follow Christ.

[Christopher Gregory]

James 1:26 ...  If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

The Whole Apparatus of Religion

Religion, in some shape or other, is indispensable to the very existence of civilized society. There is a natural religion as well as a spiritual religion. Natural conscience is the seat of the former, a spiritual conscience the seat of the latter.

One is of the flesh, the other of the Spirit. One for time, the other for eternity. One for the world, the other for the elect. One to animate and bind men together as component members of society, the other to animate and bind the children of God together as component members of the mystical body of Christ. True religion is what the world does not want nor does true religion want the world. The two are as separate as Christ and Belial.

But some religion the world must have! And as it will not have and cannot have the true, it will and must have the false.

True religion is spiritual and experimental, heavenly and divine, the gift and work of God, the birthright and privilege of the elect, the peculiar possession of the heirs of God. This the world has not, for it is God's enemy, not His friend; walking in the broad way which leads to perdition not in the narrow way which leads to eternal life.

Worldly religion cannot exist without an order of men to teach it and practice its ceremonies. Hence come clergy, forming a recognized priestly caste. And as these must, to avoid confusion, be governed, all large corporate bodies requiring a controlling power thence come bishops and archbishops, ecclesiastical courts, archdeacons, and the whole apparatus of clerical government.

The ceremonies and ordinances cannot be carried on without buildings set apart for the purpose thence churches and cathedrals.

As prayer is a part of all religious worship, and carnal men cannot, for lack of the Spirit, pray spiritually they must have forms of devotion made ready to their hand; thence come prayer-books and liturgies. As there must be mutual points of agreement to hold men together, there must be written formulas of doctrine; thence come articles, creeds, and confessions of faithAnd finally, as there are children to be instructed, and this cannot be safely left to oral teaching, for fear of ignorance in some and error in others, the very form of instruction must be drawn up in so many words thence come catechisms.

People are puzzled sometimes to know why there is this and that thing in an established religion why we have churches and clergy, tithes and prayer-books, universities and catechisms, and the whole apparatus of religion. They do not see that all these things have sprung, as it were, out of a moral necessity, and are based upon the very constitution of man that this great and widespread tree of a human religion has its deep roots in the natural conscience; and that all these branches necessarily and naturally grow out of the broad and lofty stem.

The attachment, then, of worldly people to a worldly religion is no great mystery. It is no riddle for a Samson to put forth or requiring a Solomon to solve.

[Joseph Philpot]

Acts 17:22 ... Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

Lopsided religion

There is, perhaps, a peculiar tendency to lopsided religion in our age of excitement and activity. Nothing delights the senses like harmony. The eye rests with pleasure on the edifice which is complete in all its parts according to the laws of architecture. And the sensation of delight is still more exquisite, on viewing the harmonious combination of colors, as exhibited in the rainbow, or the flowers of the field. The ear, also, is ravished with the harmony of musical sounds; and the palate is delighted with savory dishes.

The beauty and loveliness of Christian character depend on the harmonious culture of all the Christian graces in due proportion. If one is deficient, and another too prominent, the idea of deformity strikes the mind with painful sensations; like harsh, discordant musical sounds; or like the disproportionate combination of colors. Where all the graces exist in due proportion, they will form a lovely character, harmonious and beautiful as the colors of the rainbow.

The beauty of the Christian character greatly depends on its symmetrical proportions. A person may be very zealous in some things, and yet quite defective in his Christian character; and the probability is, that he has no more true religion than shows itself in its consistent proportions. The new energy imparted by the regenerating grace of God may unite itself with the strong points of his character, and produce a very prominent development; while, in regard to those traits of character which are naturally weak in his constitutional temperament, grace may be scarcely perceptible. The error lies in cultivating almost exclusively, those graces which are most agreeable with our prominent traits of character.

We should bend our energies, by the grace of God, chiefly to the development of those points of character which are naturally weak; while we discipline, repress, and bring under control, those which are too prominent. This will prevent deformity, and promote a uniform consistency of character. The perfection of Christian character consists in the harmonious development of the Christian graces.

[Harvey Newcomb]

Galatians 5:22-23 ... But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Most Church-Goers

Refined worldliness is the present snare of the Church. The young are trained and encouraged by their parents to be "lovers of pleasure." Parties, dancing, theaters, and such like, are no longer forbidden things to the followers of the Lamb!  Most church-goers are in fact, but worldly men varnished over with religion, that is all.  These are the ambiguous disciples of our age, who belong to Christ but in name. These are the stony-ground or thorny-ground hearers!

The religion of such is but a half-and-half religion without depth, or decision, or vigor, or self-sacrifice. It is but a picture or a statue not a living man.  Such a man's whole religious life is one grand misconception; and every step he takes in it is a blunder, and a stumble, and a snare. Let such a man know that, in his present half-worldly, half-religious condition, he has no real religion at all. It is a fiction, a delusion. It will not stand the test of time or of eternity. It will go to pieces with the first touch. It is all hollow and must be begun again, from the very first stone of the foundation.

O worldly formalist, if you would make sure your hope of eternal life and obtain a discipleship that will stand all tests count all the past but loss. Fling away your vain hopes and self-righteous confidences. Give up your fond idea of securing both earth and Heaven. Go straight to Calvary; there be crucified to the world, and the world to you, by the cross of Christ (Galatians 6:14). Go at once to Him who died and rose again, and drink into His love. One draught, nay, one drop of that love will forever quench your love of sin, and be the death of that worldliness which threatens to be your eternal ruin!

Market-Driven Christianity

Religion in America is big business. Scads of money, powerful personalities, huge egos, and positions of prominence, influence, and recognition are at stake in the business of religion, just as they are in any other business. There was a time when the concern of churches and preachers in this country was the glory of God and the truth of God. Today, like any business, the concern is for success.

Christianity today is market-driven. The goal of all marketing is to make both the buyer and the seller satisfied. Consequently, market-driven churches, in utter abandonment of God's glory and God's truth, in their insatiable quest for success and recognition do whatever it takes to win customers and keep them.

Be warned! False doctrine and worldliness always go hand in hand. Worldliness usually leads the way. The early modernists did not aim at destroying biblical Christianity. They simply tried to make Christianity palatable to an unbelieving world. It cannot be done. When Christianity becomes acceptable to unregenerate people, it has ceased to be Christianity!

The Only Answer

The good news (the gospel) is the answer to those who will believe, but it is poison to those who reject and revile it. It has been said that if we just change the world with the gospel (message of the cross) that everything will be okay, but this is not so. It is NOT the preaching of the gospel which will change the world, for the world is marked by sin and condemnation, reserved for judgment at some point in the future.

Our mandate is to make disciples. Our mandate is to share the love of Christ to sinners in the hope that they will repent as we once did. But the answer to poverty, famine, war, injustice, death, and destruction, which continues to grow at an alarming rate, is the return of Christ to this earth. That in of itself is the answer to what we see in our world, Jesus himself returning to make things right.

Until he returns to establish his kingdom, this world will progressively get worse, not better. Dominion-ism and those who advocate it are deceived into thinking that the church will solve the problems that can only be solved by Christ destroying the yoke of sin and death. That is our blessed hope for every evil action, every pain, every hurt, the return of Christ. But until that happens, we share our faith with those who will hear, warning them time is short and the window to repent is closing. Then shall come the judgment.

This is the reality of both the gospel and God's justice to sin and its eventual correction, the second coming of Jesus Christ.

[Christopher Gregory]

Oh Look, See Where it Leads

This, my friends, and this alone, is the way of salvation. Is this the way in which you are walking? Or is it the smooth, easy downward road to destruction? You may slide along that without exertion or difficulty, like a dead fish floating with the stream; but oh! look before you, and see where it leads!

Most people form some easy system of religion, from their own vain imaginations, suited to their depraved taste, indulgent to their sloth and carnality,  and favorable to their lusts and this they call 'Christianity'!

But this is not the religion of the Bible! This is not the way to life laid out by God in His Word but it is the smooth downward road to destruction!

[Samuel Davies]

Matthew 7:13-14 … Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Survey The Idols

There are other Baals in this age, in all the various forms under which they are objects of human idolatry.  It is true that you are not called, invited or disposed to bow the knee to idols of wood, stone or metal. These, however, are not the only way in which idolatry may be practiced. Everyone has a god, and if man does not love and worship Jehovah, he will make a deity of his own image. Survey the idols which you are called upon to worship:

Among them, sustaining a high place, is the vile idol of SENSUALITY. This goddess is decked out with all that can pollute the imagination, inflame the passions, or excite the evil propensities of the heart. Before this image, multitudes of devotees of both sexes bow the knee and offer the most costly sacrifices of property, health, virtue and reputation!

Near her is the bewitching and smiling image of WORLDLY PLEASURE, with the sound of music, the song and the dance, alluring the giddy and thoughtless to its orgies; and throwing the spell of its fascinations over the imagination of multitudes who go merrily to their eternal ruin!

MAMMON, the despicable deity of wealth, is there glittering with gold, and offering riches to his eager followers as the reward of their diligent and faithful adherence. His liturgy is the cry of "Money! Money! Money!" His sacrifices are the time, the bodies, the comfort, and the souls of his worshipers!

Near this is the shrine of HUMAN KNOWLEDGE. This idol is only evil, when raised above the place of faith, piety and virtue. When thus exalted above Scripture, it is a deceiving, corrupting idol, the false goddess of a Pantheon of Vices.

Nor must we leave out the idols of FALSE RELIGION, the chief of which is Popery, the anti-Christ of the Apocalypse, "the Man of Sin sitting in the temple of God, exalting itself above all that is called God." This idol, taking the name of Christ as its designation, assuming the cross as its symbol, and boasting of an apostle as its first pope; enriched by wealth; venerable for antiquity; dignified by learning; decorated by sculpture, architecture, and painting; and adding the abysmal policies, and most serpentine craft to all these other dangerous qualities has fascinated countless millions! And, notwithstanding the monstrous absurdity of its doctrines, the blood-stained page of its history, and its hostility to the liberties of mankind is now putting forth the most arrogant claims, and making the most audacious attempts for the conquest of our country!

These idolaters have chosen their god, and are the determined and devoted worshipers of their Baals! They have hardened their hearts and seared their consciences.  They congratulate themselves upon their having thrown off all the weaknesses and fears of Christianity, and upon their being now enabled to pursue their Hell-ward course unchecked by the restraint of conscience. Duped men, blind, and boasting in their blindness are benumbed in all their moral faculties, and exulting in their stupidity! With every tie cut, which held them to piety and truth, they account it a privilege that they are drifting unobstructed to eternal destruction determined to be lost, and rejoicing that nothing bars their path to the bottomless pit!

[J. A. James]

Ezekiel 14:3 … Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

Ezekiel 20:16 …  Because they despised my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.

Make Believe Religion

We read in Scripture of the form and the power of godliness. When we look around us in the church, we see more of the form than we do of the power. There seems to be so many people who are merely playing religion. They attend services and go through the form of worship. They are sometimes very strongly devoted to their creed and greatly attached to the organization of which they are members; but when you look for the power of godliness in their lives--you do not find it. This make-believe religion may ease the conscience for a time. People may manage to get along with such a religion in this world, but it will not stand the test of eternity.

Of course, it will not stand the real test for this life. The soul which has the form without the power of religion, can never have that satisfaction and peace which true religion gives.

Religion that can be put on with the Sunday clothes and taken off as easily, never goes very deep into the heart or life. While they profess to worship God, their hearts are far from Him. The service of such people is always weak, because there is no heart in it. Yet such people are not usually weak, when it comes to serving self and the world.

God hates the mere form of religion. It is an insult to him. He knows whether we are sincere or not whether our service is just form or not. Modern ritualism is a curse to the church.

Pharisees

Have you ever wondered what a church full of Pharisees would be like?

2. They would all tithe.
3. They would all work in the church.
4. They would all go to Hell!

Stumbling-Blocks

Let us observe that our Lord charges His apostles, when He sends them forth to study simplicity of habits, and contentment with such things as they have.  These instructions contain a lesson for all time. The spirit of these verses is meant to be remembered by all ministers of the Gospel. The leading idea which the words convey is a warning against worldliness and luxurious habits.

Well would it be for the world and the Church, if the warning had been more carefully heeded! From no quarter has Christianity received such damage as it has from the hands of its own ministers! On no point have its ministers erred so much, and so often as in the matter of personal worldliness, and luxury of life. They have often destroyed, by their daily lives the whole work of their lips! They have given occasion to the enemies of religion to say that they love ease, and money, and earthly things far more than souls.

From such ministers, may we pray daily that the Church may be delivered! They are a living stumbling-block in the way to Heaven. They are helpers to the cause of the devil and not of God. The preacher whose affections are set on money, and finery and feasting, and pleasure-seeking has clearly mistaken his vocation. He has forgotten his Master's instructions. He is not an apostolic man!

Place The Bible On a Pedestal

We need a more certain sound about the inspiration, sufficiency, and supremacy of Holy Scripture.  There is a growing inclination to depreciate the blessed volume as a respectable old book, containing a great deal of truth, but truth mixed up with error and fables.

There is a hasty readiness to assume that whenever the conclusions of so-called science conflict with the Bible that the Bible must be wrong and science right, it being coolly forgotten that perhaps we do not rightly interpret the Book.

Away with all this!  Let us boldly place the Bible on the pedestal where our forefathers placed it, and maintain, like them, that, however imperfectly we may understand it, the old Book is perfect, and is an infallible rule of faith and practice!

A Pope of Our Own

We all naturally love to have a pope of our own. We are far too ready to think, that because some great minister or some learned man says a thing; or because our own minister, whom we love, says a thing that it must be right, without examining whether it is in Scripture or not.

It is absurd to suppose that ordained men cannot go wrong. We should follow them so far as they teach according to the Bible, but no further. We should believe them so long as they can say, "Thus it is written! Thus says the Lord!" but further than this, we are not to go. Infallibility is not to be found in ordained men, but in the Bible alone!

Let us take care that we do not place implicit confidence on our own minister's opinion, however godly he may be. Peter was a man of mighty grace, and yet he could err. Your minister may be a man of God indeed, and worthy of all honor for his preaching and example; but do not make a pope of him! Do not place his word on the same level with the Word of God.

The Christian minister is not infallible! The vulgar notion that a clergyman is not likely to hold or teach erroneous doctrines, and that we seldom need to doubt the truth of anything he tells us in the pulpit is one of the most mischievous errors which has been bequeathed by the Church of Rome. It is a complete delusion! Ordination confers no immunity from error! Ministers, like Churches may err both in living and matters of faith.

The Apostle Peter erred greatly at Antioch, where Paul withstood him to the face. Many of the church Fathers and Reformers and Puritans made great mistakes. The greatest errors have been begun by ministers!

The teaching of all ministers ought to be constantly compared with the Scriptures and when it contradicts the Scriptures, it ought not to be believed. However high a clergyman's office may be, and however learned and devout he may appear he is still only an uninspired man, and can make mistakes. His opinion must never be set above the Word of God!

Let us receive nothing, believe nothing, follow nothing which is not in the Bible, nor can be proved by the Bible. Let our rule of faith, our touchstone of all teaching, be the written Word of God alone!

Do Not Be Led Astray!

Many things combine to make the present inroad of false doctrine peculiarly dangerous.

There is an undeniable zeal in some of the teachers of error and their 'earnestness' makes many think they must be right.

There is a great appearance of learning and theological knowledge and many imagine that such clever and intellectual men must surely be safe guides.

There is a general tendency to free thought in these latter days many like to prove their independence of judgment, by believing novelties.

There is a wide-spread desire to appear tolerant and liberal-minded many seem half ashamed of saying that anybody can be in the wrong.

There is a quantity of half-truth taught by the modern false teachers they are incessantly using Scriptural terms and phrases in an unscriptural sense.

There is a morbid craving in the public mind for the more sensational and showy men are impatient of inward, invisible heart-work.

There is a silly readiness in every direction to believe everybody who talks cleverly and earnestly and a determination to forget that Satan is often "transformed into an angel of light." 2 Corinthians 2:14

There is a wide-spread 'gullibility' among professing Christians every heretic who tells his story plausibly, is sure to be believed. Anyone who questions him, is called a bigot and a narrow-minded man.

All these things are peculiar symptoms of our times. I defy any observing man to deny them. They tend to make the assaults of false doctrine in our day peculiarly dangerous. They make it more than ever needful to cry aloud, "Do not be led astray by all kinds of strange teachings!"

An ignorant laity will always be the bane of a Church! A Bible-reading laity may save a Church from ruin.

Let us read the Bible regularly, daily, and with fervent prayer, and become familiar with its contents.

Let us receive nothing, believe nothing, follow nothing which is not in the Bible, nor can be proved by the Bible.

Let our rule of faith, our touchstone of all teaching be the written Word of God!

Universal Atonement = Blasphemy

Universal atonement is the most hideous blasphemy ever to be spewed from the pit of darkness! No greater blasphemy ever spewed from the pit of Hell, than the blasphemous assertion that Christ died to redeem the multitudes who suffer the wrath of God there!

Universal love, universal grace, and universal redemption is meaningless love, meaningless grace, and meaningless redemption. To preach such is to preach a meaningless gospel, a meaningless god, and a meaningless savior!

There is no love except distinguishing love, no redemption except a particular redemption, no atonement except a limited atonement, no deliverance except an effectual deliverance, and no grace except irresistible, omnipotent, saving grace!

As Filthy As a Priest's Ear!

Do you ask, "To whom shall I confess my sins?" Do not come to me with your confession. Oh no, no, no! I could not stand that!

I can never understand how a "Catholic priest" can ask people to confess their sins to him. I would not make my ear into a common sewer, for all the wealth in the world! What foulness must there be on the soul of him who has heard the sins that others have committed, and who knows what sin he has himself committed!

Sin, when we see what it really is, whether in ourselves or in others, horrifies us!

There is an old proverb about a thing being "as filthy as a priest's ear!" I cannot imagine anything dirtier than that, and I have no wish to be a partaker in the filthiness.

Go to God and confess your sin to Him; pour out your heart's sad story in the ear of Him against whom you have offended! Say with David, "Against You, You only, have I sinned and done this evil in Your sight!"

Going To Heaven

All religions are good and will lead you to heaven.  Everyone goes to heaven when they die.

False.

Religions such as Jehovah's Witness, Mormonism, Islam, etc. are cults and are leading people to destruction.  There is only one true God and only one way to go to heaven; and that is by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 14:6 ... Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
