God or The Devil

The apostle John does not stutter. First, second and third books of John are so clear in describing what a true Christian ‘is’ and ‘is not’.

He goes so far as to put all of humanity into one of two groups.

1) CHILDREN OF GOD

2) CHILDREN OF THE DEVIL

Which group are you in??

[Troi Nelson Cockayne]

>

1 John 3:6-10 ... Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

The Objects of Christ's Mission

The objects of Christ's mission: His People WHO are the recipients of this glorious salvation? The text is unmistakably clear: "His people." Not all mankind indiscriminately, but those whom the Father gave to Him from eternity past (John 6:37; 17:2); those chosen in Him before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4), and for whom He laid down His life as their Good Shepherd. (John 10:11, 15) This truth exalts the sovereign grace of God. Jesus did not come to make salvation possible for all, but to secure salvation for His people a definite, elect, blood-bought multitude.

His mission was not to offer redemption hypothetically, but to accomplish it perfectly. "He WILL save…" is the language of certainty, not possibility. Yet how can one know if he is among "His people"? The answer is found in the fruits of saving grace: conviction of sin, faith in Christ, repentance toward God, love for holiness, and perseverance in the truth. Those who trust in Christ and walk in His ways, show themselves to be the people He came to save. Do not rest in a shallow profession. Examine your heart. Has Christ truly delivered you from the love of sin, the dominion of self, and the darkness of unbelief?

[Charles H. Spurgeon]

Churches ...

A LIBERAL church says you are welcome here and you do not have to clean up your life.

A LEGALISTIC church says you are not welcome here until you clean up your life.

The Lord says you are welcome here and he will change your life from the inside out!

 ✞  ✞   ✞

John 8:10-11 ...  When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Romans 14:4 ... Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

Romans 8:1 ... There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

The Model Church

1 Thessalonians 1:6-10 ... 6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost. So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing. For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; 10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

The beauty of this Church did not consist of a gorgeous material building, but of a people who are said to be "In God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ" (v. 1). And that they were examples to all believers (v. 7). Note their character.

I. They were Saved from Wrath. "They were delivered from the wrath to come" (v 10) It should never be forgotten that there is "wrath to come" (Revelation 6:17) Wrath against all ungodliness. Blessed are they whom "God has appointed to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Thessalonians 5:9) Christ our Refuge. "Flee from the wrath to come."

II. They were Converted to God. "They turned to God from idols" (v. 9). Christ is the atoning sacrifice for the sin of the world, but that fact in itself does not save the world; there must needs be a personal turning to God from sin and unbelief. The idols of the unconverted are numerous and varied. To turn to God is to forsake everything that would divide our affections or hinder our whole-hearted trust.

III. They were Receivers of the Word of God. "They received the Word in much affliction" (v. 6) These were troublous times, as we learn from Acts 17; but the antagonism of the worldly-minded did not hinder them from boldly receiving the Word. It is always a sign of a healthy soul or Church, which gladly drinks in the truth as revealed in God's Word Human philosophies may have their place, but they are the food to build up a model Church. Quickened spirits need the "Word of Life."

IV. They were Devoted to the Service of God. "They turned from idols to serve the living and true God" (v. 9). What a change! Serving the Living God, instead of dead things that only mocked their needs with a silent indifference. "To whom, O Lord, can we go but unto You?" You are worthy of the service of every power and passion, every thought and feeling of the soul, which You have redeemed by Your Blood. "Serve the Lord with gladness."

V. They were Looking for the Son of God. They had made up their minds to serve, and "to wait for His Son from Heaven" (v. 10). They believed Christ would come again, as all the early Christians did, and as He Himself had promised This was called "that blessed hope." (Titus 2:13) The prophets of old looked and waited for the Coming of the Messiah long ages before He came; but in the fullness of the time, He did come. The Church may have waited long, so long that many have lost the vision and the hope. But in the fullness of the time He will Come as He said.  (John 14:3; Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Revelation 1:7)

VI. They were Joyful in the Spirit of God. They had the "joy of the Holy Spirit" (v. 6). With the Word of God in their hearts, and this glorious prospect before their eyes, and the power of the Spirit resting on them, their service was not a burdensome task, but a happy privilege and a growing delight. This was characteristic of the first Church members. "They were filled with joy, and with the Holy Spirit." (Acts 13:52) "How are the mighty fallen?"

VII. They were Examples to Others. "You were examples to all that believe" (v. 7). This was certainly a prosperous Church, although there is nothing said regarding their financial position, no reference to their "Annual Balance Sheet." But their faith in God was known everywhere (v. 8), and the influence of their missionary enthusiasm, in sounding forth the Word of God, had been felt throughout Macedonia and Greece. They honored Christ as the Head of the Church, and they were honored by Him in doing things worthy of His great Name.

This is what the Church of Christ should do. This is what every Church true to the Word of God is; and this is what every Christian should be an encouraging example to others. "Believe, and you shall see."

[James Smith]

The Unconverted

The problem with conservative churches is not that they lack members. The problem is that many of those members are not converted.

Millions of members of evangelical churches are absent from worship services each Sunday and are equally absent from Christian living during the rest of the week.

Biblical illiteracy and unethical conduct by Christians seem to be on the rise. Many people who attend are indifferent to the truths of Christianity, and others are divisive, even mean-spirited.

[Paul House]

Ephesians 4:18 ... Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

2 Corinthians 6:14 ...  Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Romans 8:9 ... But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

BE The Church!!

The church is a people, not a place.

The Church has two important missions: the Great Commission and the Great Commandment.

The Lords' design for His church is to make disciples who love God and love others.

 The Great Commission:

Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.  And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:16-20

The Great Commandment:

And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.  And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:  And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question. Mark 12:28-34

"The Church"

The church was never meant to be a denomination, political infrastructure, or a social club. It was designed to be a community committed to radical love, justice, and compassion for all.

Romans 12:5 ... So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

Galatians 5:13 ...  For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

Ephesians 4:5-6 ... One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Say, Is Not This Lovely?

Great and rich believers, along with lowly and poor believers are all one in Christ and are equal with each other!  The same confessions of sin, however humiliating they may proceed equally from the hearts of all. The same petitions for grace, for mercy, for strength are asked by all. The same devout gratitude for spiritual blessings is poured forth by all. The Word is pronounced with the same authority to all, and entire submission to it is required from them all. The same exceedingly great and precious promises are guaranteed to them all. The same priceless inheritance is reserved in Heaven for all who by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, receive and obey the Gospel.

View both rich and poor believers, sitting down together at the table of the Lord as guests equally invited, and equally accepted by the great Master of the feast! All eating of the same bread; all drinking of the same cup; all receiving into their souls, the same divine blessings. Say, is not this lovely? Is it not a true picture of Heaven itself, where the poor beggar Lazarus, whose sores the dogs once licked, because he had not a friend to bind them up now sits down with all the Prophets and Apostles of the Lord at the marriage supper of the Lamb! Yes!

Thus, it is in the Church below. The rich and the poor meet together, for the Lord is the Redeemer of them all, the Father of them all, the Friend of them all, the portion of them all! In Christ's church on earth, both poor and rich are all in a measure poor in spirit, mournful over their sinfulness, meek and humble, hungering and thirsting for righteousness, merciful, pure in heart, holy and Christly!

In the body of Christ, there is no place for despising the poor, or envying the rich as the same honor and blessedness belong to all!

[Charles Simeon]

James 1:9-10 ... Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

Galatians 3:28 ... There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3:11 ... Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

Romans 12:5 ... So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

One Church, One Body

God did not call us to be faithful to a church, whether it’s your church, my church, or any other church. He called us to be faithful to him alone.

Churches come and go, institutions are built by men to test the loyalty of their people, all by manipulation. We are not Roman Catholic’s. Just be faithful to your Heavenly Father and be good to one another.

Some will argue their religious mindset, but the truth is, we, you and I, are the church. Buildings will eventually crumble, but the body endures eternal.

[Christopher Gregory]

Romans 12:5 ... So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

1 Corinthians 12:12 ... For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

Colossians 3:12 ... And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Where is Christ in Your Theological System?

Take this Book and distill it into one word and that one word will be JESUS! The Bible itself, is but the body of Christ, and we may look upon all its pages as the swaddling bands of the infant Savior for if we unroll the Scripture, we come upon Jesus Christ Himself.

Where is Christ in your theological system? He Himself is the Doctor and Doctrine, the Revealer and Revelation, the Illuminator and the Light of men. He is exalted in every word of truth, because He is its sum and substance. He sits above the gospel, like a prince on His own throne. Doctrine is most precious, when we see it distilling from His lips and embodied in His person. Sermons are only valuable, in proportion as they speak of Him and point to Him!

[Charles H. Spurgeon]

Luke 24:27 ... And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

John 5:39 ... Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

John 1:14 ... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Come One, Come All

Christianity in the world today is like a big tent, full of many different factions, organizations and denominations. How big is that tent that represents Christ? Huge. Christianity alone has over 45,000 different denominations to date. In the US alone there are over 20,000 groups alone that make up just the Pentecostal and Charismatic segment under the tent.

Evangelicals, Lutheran, Methodists, and other factions represents even larger numbers. This doesn’t account for the vast number of Christian groups that have no affiliation with any of the mainline denominations themselves. The body of Christ is not centered on just one group or organization, it encompasses all who follow Christ.

It’s a big tent, and there’s room for all.

[Christopher Gregory]

Ephesians 4:4-6 ... There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

No Cost of Being a Christian in America!!

I went to a church not along ago; they got thirty acres. So, what are their plans with it? They want their own football field and tennis courts. Dear God, do we go to church to learn to play tennis? God help the preachers!

We have such an accommodating Christianity today. The best title of the professing church of God today, in my judgment, is "Unbelieving Believers." There's cancer in the church tonight! At this grim hour, the world sleeps in the darkness and the Church sleeps in the light. You'll never get me to believe that the church today believes in Hell. We're a million, billion miles away from New Testament Christianity!  I doubt if 5% of professing Christians in America are born again!

Entertainment is the devil's substitute for joy. The more joy you have in the Lord, the less entertainment you need. Is the world crucified to you or does it fascinate you? The apostles had no gold, but lots of glory. We have lots of gold, but no glory. The book of Acts shows us the church before it became fat and short of breath by prosperity! Who or what takes priority over God in our lives? Where, oh, where are the eternity-conscious believers? Where are the souls white-hot for God because they fear His holy name and presence and so live with eternity's values in view?

There's no cost of being a Christian in America! I'd rather have ten people who want God than 10,000 people who want to play church!

2 Timothy 4:3 ... For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

John 5:39 ... Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

John 3:3 ... Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Christians!!

Wide and diversified is the work belonging to the Church of Christ. In the household of God there is no pillow for the indolent. The term, 'an idle Christian', involves a contradiction. It has scarcely more meaning than a rayless sun, a waveless ocean, a noiseless waterfall, a rose without perfume.

In this community each member has his appointed place. "We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10)  "Not slothful in business, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord," (Romans 12:11) is the universal rule. The final welcome is, "Well done, good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:23)

The Tares.

Haters will lie and gossip about you.  They may even convince others to hate you too.   But, they will never convince God to stop blessing you.  Amen.

Kingdom Seeds

People are dying inside. He has ordained you for this rescue mission. Stay the course. Establish the seeds of His Kingdom. He sees abundant harvests ahead. Keep moving. Plow in thanksgiving and reject fear and anxiety.  You are His creative son. You are doing what He created you to do, expand His glory like the heavens, you are made in His likeness. Like father, like son. He has adopted you as His son.

Until ...

Everyone is a Christian until it gets Biblical. Christians unite until their denominational theologies surface creating a division that does not exist in heaven. In heaven there are many mansions, not many denominations. Christians, until it requires a faith to step out and be ye separate from the world and the things there of. Until the Spirit of the Lord convicts and corrects one’s lifestyle habits and choices. Giving up those things the flesh desires and picking up the things the spirit desires instead.

Everyone is a Christian for Christmas until the baby becomes the man on the Cross. People are comfortable saying, Baby Jesus. People are uncomfortable speaking of the Crucified Son of Man, Jesus. It is less controversial to say the name, God, because it is less likely to make people uncomfortable by speaking the name of Jesus. Yes, even Christians do this!

Everyone is a Christian until it requires being a servant to the Word of God (Bible) and the things there in. No more picking and choosing what satisfies one’s flesh nature, but only eyes for what pleases the Spirit of the Living God through the Cross of Jesus. You call yourself a Christian, but why? Because you were baptized as an infant (not your choice by the way)? Because your family lineage says you are Episcopal, Methodist, Catholic, Lutheran, etc.? Because you are not atheist, Muslim, Hindu, you call yourself a Christian. To call yourself a Christian carries a lot of responsibility.

Is it possible, Christian, you’re losing focus! Right before your very eyes you are simply watching as the Christian faith is under attack.

We live in a time when The God of the Bible and HIS Word are no longer respected and held as the highest authority over all.  Prayer removed from schools.  Ten Commandments removed from public places.  One cannot talk about God in the workplace.  Babies are killed in the womb by the thousands.  There are attempts to “neutralize” the natural creation of man and woman as defined by God. I say, attempts, because only God determines your DNA according to his creative abilities. Unnatural affections between men and women. False prophets/prophetesses on the rise. Christian persecution on the rise across the world.  A person can place their hand the Bible, take an oath, even lie, with no feeling of guilt. There was a time when it was sacred to place your hand on the Bible. Not any more. I could go on, but you get the idea.

If you call yourself a Christian it is time to self-reflect and self-evaluate why you call yourself a Christian. It is more than a word or religious designation. It is so much more, so much more, and it is time to STAND UP AND BE COUNTED AS A CHRISTIAN FULLY SUBMITTED AND COMMITTED TO FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST ALONE. Are you someone who loves God with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength? Who believes in the Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Who believes that we are not gods and never will be?

Who believes in the miracles of the Bible? Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, healed the blind, deaf, sick, and lame and rose from the dead Himself. Are you someone who believes in both heaven and hell with the understanding that only trusting in the finished work of the Cross brings eternal salvation and a place in heaven? Are you willing to lay down your life for the sack of the Cross? Everyone is a Christian until it gets Biblical.

[DiAnne George]

Romans 15:13 ...  Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Every Man's Shoes

The church of Christ is composed of all who are savingly united to Him by genuine faith. They are infallibly known only to Himself. They are scattered far and wide, separated from each other by seas and mountains; they are a people of many nations and languages. But, wherever their lot is cast, they hear His voice, and are under His gracious eye. They do not have equal degrees of spiritual light, or measures of grace but they are all 'accepted in the Beloved'. They are all spiritual worshipers, and joint partakers of grace and all will hereafter appear together at their Savior's right hand in glory! In whatever is essential to their salvation, they are all led by the same Spirit, and mind the same things.

But at present they are in an imperfect state. Though they are new creations, they are not freed from the 'principle of indwelling sin'. Their knowledge is clouded by much remaining ignorance; and their zeal, though right in its aim, is often warped and misguided by the corrupt influence of SELF. They still have many corruptions. They live in a world which furnishes frequent occasions of enticing them. And Satan, their subtle and powerful enemy, is always upon his watch to mislead and ensnare them!

Besides all this, they are born, educated, and effectually called, under a great variety of circumstances. Habits of life, local customs, early relationships with families and friends, and even bodily constitution, have more or less influence in forming their characters, and in giving a bias and turn to their manner of thinking; so that, in matters of a secondary nature, their sentiments may, and often do differ as much as the features of their faces! A uniformity of judgment among them on these secondary matters, is not to be expected, while the wisest are defective in knowledge, the holiest are defiled with sin, and while the weaknesses of human nature, which are common to them all are so differently affected by a thousand impressions which arise from their various situations.

They might, however, maintain a unity of spirit, and live in the exercise of mutual love, were it not that almost every individual unhappily conceives that they are bound in conscience, to prescribe their own line of conduct as a standard to which all their brethren ought to conform! They are but few, who consider this "narrow mind-set" to be as unnecessary, unreasonable, and impracticable, as it would be to insist, or expect, that every man's shoes should be exactly of one size!

Thus, though all agree in asserting the authority and right of the Lord Jesus, as King and Head of His church, yet the various ideas they frame of the rule or standard to which He requires them to conform, and their pertinacious attachment to their own conceptions of it, separate them almost as much from each other, as if they were not united to Him by a principle of living faith! Their petty differences form them into so many separate churches; and the fury with which they defend their own ideas, and oppose all who cannot agree with them in every minute point, makes them forget that they are children in the same family, and servants of the same Master! And, while they vex and worry each other with disputations and censures the world is bewildered by all this, and laughs at them all! The spirit of love is restrained, offences are multiplied, and Satan is gratified by beholding the extensive effects of his pernicious and long-practiced maxim, Divide and conquer!

The Body ~

Don't go to church ... Be the Church!

Ephesians 4:4-6 ...  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;  One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Ephesians 4:15-16 ... But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Ephesians 5:29-30 … For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:  For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

1 Corinthians 12:26-27 … And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.  Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.❤
