Stop "Tithing"

When you tithe your hard-earned income, you aren’t tithing to receive anything in return, but that the machine can keep demanding more. It’s called Capitalism.

The wording (Tithe) itself is disingenuous because it implies an old covenant meaning that no longer exists. That’s why we should change the wording to reflect a more accurate interpretation and call it giving

But the mainstream traditionalists won’t do that because it is counterproductive to their agenda.

[Christopher Gregory]

2 Corinthians 9:7 ... Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Tithing is a False Gospel

Tithing is an old covenant practice related exclusively to Israelites in the land of Israel. It is not applicable or binding on believers in Christ today.  Tithing will in fact hinder our provision from Christ by trusting in law-based rule keeping rather than the blessing that belongs to us in Christ as a provision of the finished work of the cross freely given by grace through faith.

[message from the Internet]

Pastors, you preach tithing because why?  To get more wealth?  Stop preaching tithing.  It's false.

Colossians 2:14-15 ... Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his crossAnd having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Hebrews 10:9-10 ... Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

2 Corinthians 9:7 ...  Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

No Condemnation!!

Contrary to what some TV preachers might claim whom I might add makes more money in a year than most middle-income families; Christian’s are NOT under a curse if they don’t give or “tithe” to any one particular ministry or church.

This is the mess we are in today when jive talking preachers spin their web of financial fraud by twisting scripture that confuses those in the faith who are either uneducated of the word, or just don’t understand the principles of their standing with Christ. The cross ended the curse, the cross completed the requirement of Mosaic law, and grace filled the void thereafter.

Preacher, you do a disservice to the Lord as well as the people who entrust you with their spiritual life, and if you don’t stop propagating this doctrine of greed, you WILL give an account at the judgement. We need a revolution in the church today and overthrow the monarchy of religious piety and a return to the simplicity of the gospel.

Here’s the rule for giving today under this new covenant: Give as you purpose it in your heart to give.  And do it cheerfully.  (2 Corinthians 9:7) See how easy that is?

[Christopher Gregory]

Romans 8:1 ...  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Holy Spirit Giving

About 50% of what a Saint hears in Church on Sunday in some places is about tithing. So why don't I read in the New Testament any of the 12 Apostles and even Jesus commanding the Church to collect tithes and the Saints to give tithes? You would think something that is so preached in Church, Paul the Apostle would not have wanted us to be ignorant about. Paul would have surely said, "Tithe Saints."

When we look in the Scriptures at the New Testament Saints and witness their giving it is always 100%. From the widow's mite to those who sold houses and land. I have never read of Saints in the Church giving 10%. I have never read the Apostles telling the Saints to Tithe, I don't see a tithing command in the New Testament like I see commands to love God and our neighbors or the Great Commission.

When did the Holy Spirit's giving become not enough?

Amazing Revelation

From the second chapter of 1 Thessalonians...

Paul is describing the cellular building block of the Kingdom of God ‘on earth’(I.E. The Church). Namely, “Follow our pure example of sacrificial love to the lost world. Then, ‘be’ that example to the lost world.”

Paul describes subtle details of how they, as leaders, behaved among the new believers.

Paul highlights 3 things they WERE NOT:

1) DID NOT USE FLATTERY AS A CLOAK FOR GREED “For as you well know, we never came with words of flattery nor with a cloak for greed—God is our witness—“

2) WERE NOT GUILTY OF VAIN GLORY “nor did we seek glory and honor from people, neither from you nor from anyone else, though as apostles of Christ we had the power to assert our authority.”

3) DID NOT FLEECE THE FLOCK WEEKLY FOR ‘TITHE’($$$) “For you remember, believers, our labor and hardship. We worked night and day [practicing our trade] in order not to be a [financial] burden to any of you while we proclaimed the gospel of God to you.”

The truth is in the subtle details given in scripture.

Beautiful example to follow!!

A Ten Percent Tithe

All Christians and church members are required to tithe ten percent of their income to the church that they attend.

False.

Christ eliminated and abolished the Levitical priesthood. He became the new permanent priest and priesthood. So the command given to the Levitical priesthood to collect tithes was eliminated also. Christ eliminated tithing, just as He ended all of the old Mosaic law.   Believers should give from their heart but never because of a command from a Pastor or church.

Beautiful Overflow

God's inspired example of 'the Church'.  God is always seeking the heart of a person in order to bring them closer to His heart. The book of Acts is the purest example of a Spirit filled ‘Church’. What it did and how the leadership stewarded ‘giving’, which is not ‘tithing’. This is the heart of the issue. Not just for leaders, but for those following.

Church is God’s inspired example for us all to follow. Finding a Church and leadership that looks like God’s example(that uses giving to care for people and needs) is the modern day challenge.  No where in scripture does Paul command the believers to continue the law of ‘tithing’.  ‘Giving’ to advance the gospel and care for those in need was the focal point of the New Testament leadership. That’s what they were under ‘GREAT GRACE’.

Stewardship within leadership either reflects the pure motive of love(God) or a selfish, self serving motive.  If a person understands the heart of God is to create a loving family and to be sensitive to the needs of others, especially the poor and down trodden, than required ‘submission/fellowship’ that obligates a law of ‘tithing’ and then does not steward those resources like the book of Acts leadership, in my opinion, is out of alignment with the heart of God.

Acts 4:33 ... And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

Tithing - Not Required

1.  The Levitical priesthood is the only priesthood to be commanded by God to collect a tenth of the product of the land.  Priesthoods before or after had no such command. To be a priest to collect tithes, you had to be a descendant of Levi.

2.  Land limits tithing to grain, cattle, oil, fruit, etc. - the product of the land. God had distributed the land to all Jewish tribes except the Levites; so a portion of the land's production was commanded for the Levites, and to provide for the poor. The tithe was from the yield of the increase of the seed - the produce yielded. So carpenters, masons, store keepers, teachers, wagon makers, well diggers, fishermen, salesmen, tax collectors, soldiers, laborers on a farm, government employees, etc., all had absolutely no requirement to tithe.

3.  Tithes were collected by Levites priests only in a named place selected and specified by the Lord.

4.  Since the produce was food, the people were supposed to eat the food with their children, servants, and any Levites living within the boundaries of their lands, with thanksgiving and rejoicing to the Lord; and this celebratory thanksgiving meal was supposed to be eaten in a place specifically chosen by the Lord.

5. After eating in celebration to the Lord, any excess was to be placed in a storehouse, location chosen by the Lord, to be distributed by the Levite to the stranger, the widow, and the fatherless - the provision for the relief of the poor.

6.  Money was not part of tithing - with one exception. If the distance to the location chosen by the Lord was too far to travel with the tithes of food, the food to be tithed was to be sold for money. Then the person was to travel to the location, with the money buy whatever food he particularly enjoyed, and then eat the food in celebration as in #4 above.

7.  MOST IMPORTANT: Christ eliminated and abolished the Levitical priesthood. He became the new permanent priest and priesthood. So the command given to the Levitical priesthood was eliminated also. Christ eliminated tithing, just as he ended the ordinances and old covenant.

Tithing died with the Levitical priesthood; the only places tithing is referenced in the New Testament is the claim of the self-righteous Pharisee, and the explanation of its death in Hebrews.

The Apostle Paul instructed people to set aside funds from their excess, but that was to relieve the poor, particularly the large numbers of poor brethren in Jerusalem.  Relieving the poor does not include supporting self-appointed pastors or to maintain an un-commanded temple or building.

Tithing died with Christ's resurrection. Christ is the new priest; Replacing the Levitical priesthood for which tithes were commanded. To tithe is to deny Christ's priesthood.  Any minister who asks for money, even other than tithing, is a false prophet and violating the commands of Jesus.

For a pastor who is asking for tithes; to pretend he has such authority, either shows him to be an unqualified, ignorant, blind teacher or worse, dishonest. In either case, you should disassociate yourself immediately with anyone trying to hold up tithing.

Hebrews 7:11-12 ...  If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?  For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

Hebrews 7:18-19 ... For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

Psalm 110:4 ... The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Acts 8:20 ... But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

Matthew 10:8 ... Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.❤

Perfect Liberty

If you tithe you are under religious bondage and it's time to be set free. The cross ENDED the tithe, and instead, GIVING has become the new covenant with God. It's time to finally allow yourself to be free, free from religious condemnation, religious dogma and instead, walk in perfect liberty to which Christ has set us free from.

A Tiny Seed

Against a towering giant, a brook pebble seems futile. But God used it to topple Goliath. Compared to the tithes of the wealthy, a widow’s coins seem puny. But Jesus used them to inspire us…

Moses had a staff.
David had a sling.
Samson had a jawbone.
Rahab had a string.

Mary had some ointment.
Aaron had a rod.
Dorcas had a needle.
All were used by God.

What do you have? Much more than you might think. God inhabits the tiny seed. He empowers the tiny deed. Never discount the smallness of your deeds.

[Max Lucado]

Zechariah 4:10 … For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

Luke 17:6 … And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

Matthew 19:26 … But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. ❤

Paul's Message

Paul's message is radically simple: Salvation is in Christ alone. What does this mean?

It's not Christ plus your good behavior.
It's not Christ plus the years you taught a Bible study.
It's not Christ plus your tithe.
It’s not Christ plus the church you attend.
It’s not Christ plus the number of verses you memorize.
It’s not Christ plus your title in church.
It’s not Christ plus wisdom from the latest Christian seminar.
It’s not Christ plus a desert fast.
It’s not Christ plus a good driving record.
It’s not Christ plus well behaved children.
It’s not Christ plus the right job.
It’s not Christ plus the right spouse.
It’s not Christ plus the latest technology.
It’s not Christ plus any of your works.

It is simply … Christ. Christ plus … nothing.

[message from the Internet]

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 … Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Romans 5:15 ... But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

Romans 3:24 … Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Galatians 2:16 … Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Ephesians 2:8-9 … For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Galatians 3:11 … But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. ❤
