"Acsah"

That word of Acsah ( עַכְסָה), "also" is the commonest of words in the hungering and thirsting heart, and on the praying lips of the Christian. God has done much for me. He has given me a south land, where the sun shines, where the fields are broad and rich, where grape-vines and olive trees and fig trees may flourish and yield their harvests. But I am not yet at the end of my needs or of His resources. He must give me springs of water also to quicken and revive everything. I have not attained. I am not fully satisfied. As liberal as He has been, He is not wearied in bestowing, nor is His treasury depleted!

I shall come to Him over and over with new entreaties and new desires. He will return to me over and over with new endowments and new love. Suppose that I am forgiven I would have Him also add to His forgiveness, the peace and assurance which it should beget. Suppose that I am justified in His sight by the infinite meritoriousness of my Lord Jesus Christ I would also know now what it is to be sanctified and made holy by the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. Suppose that I am His redeemed and adopted child, dwelling in the atmosphere of His favor I would also be His consecrated servant and commissioned ambassador, employed to advance His Kingdom. Suppose that He has given me the south land of His mercifulness and grace He must also give me the springs of water, that through the whole of the encircling year I may bear much fruit to His glory.

Lord, give me springs of water also!

[Alexander Smellie]

Judges 1:15 ... And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

Shana Tova

The actual translation of the greeting “Shana Tova!” is “good, sweet year.” And part of that Jewish tradition during this special occasion includes eating apples and honey.

Pomegranates are especially abundant, said to have 613 seeds, connecting it to the 613 commandments given to Moses. Pomegranates are one of the seven items of produce that are closely associated with the Land of Israel. Before the Israelites entered the Land, they sent in a group of men to scout out the land. The men returned back to the Israelite camp with grapes, pomegranates and figs; samples of the wonderful fruits that grew in Israel.

On this “head of the year,” Rosh Hashanah, it’s good to remember how the Lord has so graciously orchestrated the times and seasons.

Thank you, Lord for Your amazing symphony and the redemption we have in your Son, Yeshua/Jesus.

[Kenneth Berg]

Leviticus 23:1-4 ... And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts. Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings. These are the feasts of the Lord, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.

Breath

There was a moment when Moses had the nerve to ask God what his name is. God was gracious enough to answer, and the name he gave is recorded in the original Hebrew as YHWH. Over time we’ve arbitrarily added an “a” and an “e” in there to get Yahweh, presumably because we have a preference for vowels.

But scholars and Rabi’s have noted that the letters YHWH represent breathing sounds, or aspirated consonants. When pronounced without intervening vowels, it actually sounds like breathing. YH (inhale): WH (exhale).

So, a baby’s first cry, his first breath, speaks the name of God. A deep sigh calls His name or a groan or gasp that is too heavy for mere words. Even an atheist would speak His name, unaware that their very breath is giving constant acknowledgment to God.  Likewise, a person leaves this earth with their last breath, when God’s name is no longer filing their lungs. So, when I can’t utter anything else, is my cry calling out His name?

Being alive means, I speak His name constantly. So, is it heard the loudest when I’m the quietest? In sadness, we breathe heavy sighs. In joy, our lungs feel almost like they will burst. In fear we hold our breath and have to be told to breathe slowly to help us calm down. When we’re about to do something hard, we take a deep breath to find our courage. When I think about it, breathing is giving him praise. Even in the hardest moments!

This is so beautiful and fills me with emotion every time I grasp the thought. God chose to give himself a name that we can’t help but speak every moment we’re alive. All of us, always, everywhere. Waking, sleeping, breathing, with the name of God on our lips.

Ahavat Olam

אהבת עולם

Eternal Love.

O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever

The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever: The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy endureth for ever: And brought out Israel from among them: for his mercy endureth for ever: With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him which divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endureth for ever: And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for his mercy endureth for ever: But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red sea: for his mercy endureth for ever

To him which led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him which smote great kings: for his mercy endureth for ever: And slew famous kings: for his mercy endureth for ever: Sihon king of the Amorites: for his mercy endureth for ever: And Og the king of Bashan: for his mercy endureth for ever: And gave their land for an heritage: for his mercy endureth for ever: Even an heritage unto Israel his servant: for his mercy endureth for ever. Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever: And hath redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endureth for ever. Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 136

The Reyach and The Ruach

The word reyach is sometimes translated as “sweet perfume.” Reyach comes from “Ruach” – “wind, breath or Spirit”. You see, the Ruach is the Spirit, and from the Spirit comes sweet fragrance. It’s written that we’re to manifest the sweet fragrance of the Holy Spirit – Ruach Ha Kodesh.

There are perfumes in this world that cost a fortune, but better than all of them, is the Reyach of the Ruach, the perfume of the Spirit. When someone lives in the Spirit, there is a sweet fragrance about them. When they enter, there is a sweetness. When they leave, something lingers. There is an aroma of love, joy, peace and righteousness. Something beautiful about them fills up their life in every situation.

Don’t get into perfumes to make yourself sweet, get into living in the Spirit. Live, love, walk and breathe in the Spirit and your life will become sweeter and sweeter, because the Reyach comes from the Ruach. The sweet fragrance of God comes from the Spirit of God.

Ask the Lord to fill you with the sweet fragrance of His Holy Spirit. Wherever you go today, walk in it, praise in it and love in it.

[Jonathon Cahn]

Song of Solomon 2:13 ... The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

Don't Look Back!!

The modern Hebrew word for repent is ‘shoov’, spelled “sheen”-“beit” (“vet”, the secondary form of “beit”) In ancient Hebrew script the letter “sheen” is represented by teeth and means “to destroy”. The “beit” in Hebrew represents a tent or a house. So a literal reading of “sheen”-“beit” would be “to destroy the house”!

The word picture of the original Hebrew portrays the meaning of the word, which is, “to be taken captive”. In the ancient world, conquerors wanted their captives to become part of their kingdoms, and this could only happen if they destroyed homes. So in horror, those who were taken captive would witness their houses being completely destroyed by the conquering kings, so they could never return. From this understanding of being taken captive we grasp the true meaning of “returning” and “repentance”: you have left no house behind!

Real repentance means “no turning back” (as the song says). It means that the house you lived in before has been destroyed and you have “died” to living there. Don’t look back, in futility, at what has ended forever. Live in the choice you have made to love and serve the resurrected King, Yeshua (Jesus). Remember Lot’s wife. She escaped Sodom, but became a statue of salt, an eternal monument to half-hearted repentance. Don’t let your only testimony be a longing for a house you can never return to.

[George Whitten]

Genesis 19:6 ... But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

Luke 17:32 ... Remember Lot's wife.

Philippians 3:13 ... Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,❤

Yom Kippur

יוֹם כִּפּוּר
The name "Yom Kippur" means "Day of Atonement."

The holiest day of the year for the Jewish People.
It is a day set aside to "afflict the soul," to atone for the sins of the past year.
This day is, essentially, your last appeal, your last chance to change the judgment, and to demonstrate your repentance and make amends.

✞ And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,  Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.  And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the Lord your God. Leviticus 23:26-28

✞ But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.  And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.  Romans 5:8-11

Advocate; Intercessor.

1 John 2:1-2 ... My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Romans 8:26-27 ...  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Hebrews 7:24-25 ... But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.  Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. ✞
