Do not fear. Have faith!!

Isaiah 41:10 ... Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Psalm 46:1 ... God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Hebrews 13:16 ...  So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

"Omnipotent"

When one says God is omnipotent (omni-all, potent—power) they are proclaiming that He not only has ultimate power over all things, but He is also the source of all power. Though He sets limits on all of creation, He Himself is limitless in strength, wisdom, love, holiness, and the ability to perform His sovereign will. He is the initiator of all that exists, the only uncaused entity in all of creation.

[Jennifer Slattery]

Psalm 147:5 ... Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

Romans 1:16 ... For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Hebrews 1:3 ... Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

Matthew 28:18 ... And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Revelation 19:6 ... And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

Repent and Believe!!

Yes, you must first believe but salvation is more than that.

You must repent and believe!

Mark 1:15 ... And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Acts 19:4 ... Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Psalm 24:3-5 ... Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

Sure Possession!!

They are seated on the highest throne of joy, and revel in the sweetest sunshine of delight, who know that God is their sure possession. They who hold Him as their own by the hand of faith have greater riches than earth can give, and surer property than this world can amass.

[Henry Law]

2 Samuel 22:36 ... Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.

Ecclesiastes 5:19 ... Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.

Psalm 34:10 ... The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.

Spend Time With God!!

Spend time with God in silence, listening for His voice and direction for your life.

[Adrian Rogers]

Psalm 46:10 ... Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Matthew 11:28 ... Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Lamentations 3:26 ... It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

The God of Contemporary Christianity!

The God of contemporary Christianity is only slightly superior to the pagan gods of ancient Greece and Rome if indeed He is not actually inferior to them, in that He is weak and helpless while they at least had some imagined power.

Among the sins to which the human heart is prone, hardly any other is more hateful to God than idolatry; for idolatry is at bottom a libel on His character. The idolatrous heart assumes that God is other than He is in itself a monstrous sin and substitutes for the true God, one made after its own likeness. Always this god will conform to the image of the one who created it and will be base or pure, cruel or kind, according to the moral state of the mind from which it emerges.

The essence of idolatry is the entertainment of thoughts about God that are unworthy of Him. Wrong ideas about God are not only the fountain from which the polluted waters of idolatry flow they are themselves idolatrous. The idolater simply imagines things about God and acts as if they were true. If we insist upon trying to imagine Him we end with an idol, made not with hands but with thoughts. And an idol of the mind, is as offensive to God as an idol of the hand!

Before a Christian Church goes into a decline, there must first be a corrupting of her Scriptural thoughts of God. She simply gives a wrong answer to the question, "What is God like?" and goes downhill from there. Though she may continue to cling to a sound nominal creed - her practical working creed has become false. The masses of her adherents come to believe that God is different from what He actually is and that is heresy of the most insidious and deadly kind! The heaviest obligation lying upon the Christian Church today is to purify and elevate her concept of God, until it is once more worthy of Him and of her!

[A. W. Tozer]

Psalm 50:21 ... These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.

"The Path of Life"

This is the language of one who knows his God, who has walked with Him, and who has learned that there is no joy like that which comes from the conscious nearness of God. How great is the mercy of our God, that He has not left us to grope in darkness or stumble blindly through a world cursed by sin. Earthly joys always disappoint, decay, and die. But in His infinite grace, He has made known to us the path of life a path not known by the wisdom of man, nor paved by human merit, but graciously revealed through His Word and perfectly embodied in Jesus.

He is the only path of life, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Outside of Him, there is no life at all only despair, death, and damnation. The world offers many paths broad paths of avarice, pleasure, and pride but these all lead to eternal destruction. The path of life is narrow. It is marked by humility, faith, repentance, and obedience. It leads upward, against the sinful customs of the age, and can only be walked by those whose eyes have been opened by the sovereign working of the Spirit. For those who walk this path, even though it is steep and narrow, it ends in the presence of God, where there is fullness of joy.

Not the hollow joys of earthly gain, or temporary relief; but deep, abiding, soul-satisfying joy--in the presence of Jesus, our precious Savior. In Heaven, sin will be gone, sorrow will vanish, and every holy longing will be satisfied. The pleasures that await are not fleeting or shallow--they are everlasting delights; pure, perfect, and ever-increasing--poured out by the God who delights to bless His redeemed people. Oh, how glorious is our destination! Brethren do not envy the foolish and fleeting pleasures of the wicked. Fix your eyes on Jesus and follow in His path with steady steps and a trusting heart. Jesus Himself is our portion, and in His presence is joy unspeakable and full of glory.

[Charles H. Spurgeon]

Psalm 16:11 ...  Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Heart-Searching Suitable to a Birthday

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel, and I will bless them. Number 6:24-27

My beloved,

I have been told that you this day attain your twenty-first year. Will you accept an affectionate greeting from a pilgrim friend? and will you allow me to express the feelings of my heart, though they be not so lively or so congratulatory as may seem to comport with a birthday. You have reached another milestone on the pathway of life, and where does it find you? In a medium path between the world and Christ? Ah! there is no middle path. Consider it, and then "consider your ways;" for either you are serving the Lord or serving His enemies the world, the flesh, and the devil. I do think you sometimes long to be on the Lord's side, and that your heart says of His people "Numbered with them may I be, Here and in eternity."

My heart says Amen; and may it be soon, that I may have joy over you in the Lord, and that He may have the cream of your life, the flower of your days for He is worthy. He who bled and died for sinners such as you and I, is worthy of all our powers, and of a thousand hearts if we had them. May the blessed Spirit make you feel deeply your need of Him, and this very day, if it be His holy will, may your language be "Here's my heart, Lord, take and seal it, Seal it in Your courts above."

Most heartily I desire for you a spiritual birthday in the fulfillment of that precious promise "A new heart will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you." Then will you say, "My Father, you are the guide of my youth;" and only then will you find true happiness, for "Fading is the worldling's treasure, all his boasted pomp and show; Solid joys and lasting pleasure, none but Zion's pilgrims know!" Though not with you, I am bearing you on my heart before the Lord. May He guide you every step in life and grant you the blessings of the upper and the nether springs. Forgive the intrusion of these poor lines from one who watches for your never-dying soul; and, with tender love, remains your affectionate friend,

Ruth Bryan

Psalm 90:12 ...  So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Divine Protection ~

Firm confidence is expressed in God's protecting power. May we find Him a very present help in all our troubles!

1. "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."

The Ark behind the veil was regarded as the symbol of God's presence. Common gaze penetrates not the secret place. In general men do not strive for acquaintance with God. They do not seek Him in Christ. But those who thus find Him will ever cling to Him with strengthening grasp. They will rest in Him as in a calm and cool abode. His shadow will ward off the fiery darts of Satan and avert the hot persecution of the ungodly.

2. "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God; in Him will I trust."

Faith makes bold profession. It casts off fear and avows that in God it finds a safe retreat—a sure protection—an almighty friend. This confidence will never be disappointed.

3-6. "Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the harmful pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings shall you trust; His truth shall be your shield and rampart. You shall not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flies by day; nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness; nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday."

Troubles are enumerated such as are common to this mortal lot. But trust in God exalts above their fatal reach. The fowler may lay hidden snares, but they shall not entrap. The noxious pestilence shall inflict no deathful wound. The Almighty shall extend His covering wing. His faithful promises shall uphold the combatant in the hour of battle. By night, by day, the dwelling shall be impervious to plague.

There may be a literal reference to the deliverance of Israel's sons, and their exemption from all contact with harm when plagues laid low the Egyptian hosts. There may be spiritual reference to the deliverance of God's children from the destroying attacks of Satan. But one truth is undeniable. The real happiness and safety of true believers is emphatically assured, and we are exhorted to pray for sustaining faith, and in all perils to trust without one fear.

7-10. "A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the Most High, your habitation; there no evil shall befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling."

Other terms are added to strengthen assurance. Those who by faith repose on God shall surely be upheld. Though troubles be multiplied, they shall never be cast off. In much apparent peril they shall be really safe.

11-12. "For He shall give His angels charge over You, to keep You in all Your ways. They shall bear You up in their hands, lest You dash Your foot against a stone."

This promise is distinctly addressed to Jesus. As such the devil quoted it, and Jesus heard without rejection. If we are one with Jesus, the promises which were poured upon His head will flow down to us and will invest us in security.

13-16. "You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the dragon shall you trample under feet. Because He has set His love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him My salvation."

The same encouraging strain still sounds. All who have set their love on God, and all who know His name, may claim fulfillment. They shall have deliverance in every day of trouble. God will honor them in time, and honor them with a long life, even forever and ever. Happy indeed are the people who thus dwell in the secret place of the Most High.

[Henry Law]

Psalm 91

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.  Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;  Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;  There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.  For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.  They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Low Views of Yourself?

What are you to yourself? worthless? vile? empty?

What is Jesus to you? precious? lovely? all your salvation? all your desire?

What is sin to you? the most hateful thing in the world?

What is holiness to you? most lovely? most longed for?

What is the throne of grace to you? the most attractive spot?

What is the cross to you? the sweetest resting place in the universe?

What is God to you? your God? your Father? the spring of all your joys? the fountainhead of all your bliss? the center where your affections meet?

Is it so? Then you are a child of God!

Those low views of yourself that brokenness, that inward mourning, that secret confession, that longing for more spirituality, more grace, more devotedness, more love, does but prove the existence, reality, and growth of God's work within you. Cheer up, precious soul! That soul never perished, that felt itself to be vile, and Jesus to be precious!

[Octavius Winslow]

Psalm 51:17 ... The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Psalm 138:6 ... Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.

Isaiah 1:18 ... Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Do Not Be Afraid!!

Fear often grips our hearts when we face uncertainty, suffering, and trials. But God speaks directly to His redeemed people: "Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you!" This is not a mere suggestion it is a divine command grounded in His sovereign grace. He has purchased us at the highest cost the blood of His darling Son, Jesus Christ! (1 Peter 1:18-19)

Because we are ransomed, we are also called by name. This is the personal love of God toward each of His redeemed people. He knows each of us intimately and claims us as His own. What a comfort to know that our identity is not found in our struggles, failures, or circumstances but in the unchanging truth that we are God's redeemed children! Our trials may seem overwhelming, but they can never undo what Christ has secured for us. We belong to Him, and nothing can snatch us from His omnipotent and loving hand! (John 10:28-29)

The Christian life is not free from suffering, but it is never without God's presence. The Lord does not say IF you go through deep waters, but WHEN. This world is filled with trials, but the promise is sure: "I will be with you!" Deep waters will not drown you. When trouble comes like a flood, God holds us fast. The waves may crash, but they cannot pull us from His omnipotent grip! (Psalm 93:4)

Rivers of difficulty will not sweep you away. Temptations, sorrows, and hardships may rise--but our foundation in Christ remains forever firm. Fires of oppression will not consume you. Just as God preserved Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace, He will sustain us through every trial. (Daniel 3:25)

We do not walk alone. The sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, is our Savior. He leads us, refines us, and upholds us by His wisdom and power. Every trial, though painful, is used by God to purify our faith and deepen our dependence on Him. (1 Peter 1:6-7)

You may measure the heavens with a ruler, you may weigh the mountains in scales--but the love of Christ, who shall measure that!

[Charles H. Spurgeon]

Romans 8:38-39 ...  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Isaiah 43:1-3 ... But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.

help

God invites us to go to Him freely in all our troubles. He is not angry with us for telling Him just what we feel. Indeed, we may speak to Him in such a way as we would hardly dare to speak to a fellow creature. I do not mean that we are to speak to God without the deepest reverence. Freely as we may approach Him through Jesus Christ, we must yet always bear in mind the greatness and holiness of God, and our own weakness and sinfulness.

[Francis Bourdillon]

Psalm 30:10 ...  Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper.

Psalm 46:1 ... God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Isaiah 41:13 ... For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

Your Heart's Desires

The world clamors after countless delights: riches, fame, lust, success. But the Word of God redirects the soul with this divine imperative: "Take delight in the LORD." This is not a bare command, but a gracious invitation into the very joy and satisfaction of God. True religion is not found in cold duty or lifeless religious rituals, but in the warm, living enjoyment of God Himself. The believer is called not merely to serve the Lord, but to delight in Him. He is to find his chief joy in God's glory, his deepest satisfaction in God's presence, and his highest pleasure in doing God's will. This delight is not superficial it flows from a heart transformed by saving grace.

The natural man has no desire for God; he finds no sweetness in Christ, no loveliness in a holy life, no beauty in the bloody cross. But when the Spirit of God regenerates the soul, a miracle occurs: the heart is drawn irresistibly to the Lord. The believer now sees in Him infinite worth and majesty. His love becomes better than life. His favor is counted more precious than gold. His Word becomes the soul's delight, and His will becomes the soul's aim.

The Christian's desires for God are intense, continual, and insatiable. The heart refuses to be content with anything but the living God. It is to such a person that the promise is made: "He will give you your heart's desires." But note carefully this is not the promise of carnal wishes being granted, but of holy desires being fulfilled. The one who delights in the Lord no longer craves the empty husks of the world. His heart's desires are shaped by God's Word and aligned with God's purposes. He desires communion with Christ, conformity to Christ, usefulness for Christ, and ultimately, to be with Christ forever!

These are the desires God gladly fulfills, because He Himself planted them. The one who makes the Lord his delight, will find in Him the fountain of all true delight unchanging, eternal, and all-satisfying. Dear believer, fix your heart upon Christ. Delight in His perfections. Rejoice in His grace. Rest in His promises. And as your desires are drawn upward--He will fill them with Himself.

[Charles H. Spurgeon]

Psalm 37:4 ... Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Keep Watch Over the Door of My Lips!

That which is here forbidden, is the saying of anything, be it true or false, to the harm of another. God requires that our words should be governed by "the law of kindness" (Proverbs 31:26) and anything which would hurt or injure the reputation of another, is to be rigidly shunned.

Whenever I cannot speak well of my brother or sister, I must say nothing at all. To speak evil of others, proceeds from ill will or malice desiring that they should be made odious in the esteem of others. It is devilish to take delight in exposing the faults of fellow-Christians and stirring up prejudice and bitter feelings against them. (Revelation 12:10) God requires that our words should agree with love as well as with truth.

Since Christians are brethren, the last thing they should be guilty of is defaming one another! Except where the glory of God plainly requires it, and the good of that person demands it we must refrain from all evil speaking of others. If we are duly occupied with and humbled over our own many faults, we shall have neither time nor inclination to dwell upon or publish those of others! If we properly heed the exhortation of Philippians 4:8, we shall cultivate the habit of admiring the graces in our brethren instead of being like filthy flies, settling on their sores!

[A. W. Pink]

 ✞  ✞  ✞

Philippians 4:8 ... Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

James 4:11 ... Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

Psalm 141:3 ... Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

Under God's Wings

Some of the most expressive illustrations of the divine love and care employed in the Bible, are taken from the ways of birds. For example, this beautiful figure of a bird sheltering her young under her wings, runs through all the Scriptures, as a picture of God's sheltering love.

We find it often. Boaz welcomed Ruth from her heathen home to the land of Israel, "The Lord recompense your work, and a full reward be given you of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you are come to trust." (Ruth 2:12)

In one of the Psalms we find the words, "My soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed." (Psalm 57:1) In another Psalm is the prayer, "Hide me under the shadow of your wings, from the wicked that oppress me." (Psalm 17:8-9) In still another Psalm is this word of confidence, "He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings shall you trust." (Psalm 91:4)

Then, in the New Testament, our Lord gives the picture yet added beauty and sweeter and more sacred meaning, by His wonderful adaptation of it to Himself. Addressing those who had resisted His love, He said, with a great pain at His heart," O Jerusalem, Jerusalem how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings!" (Matthew 23:37)

Thus, the image is a favorite one in the Bible. Here it is expressed in words of great beauty: How priceless is Your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge under the shadow of Your wings!

While a picture of a bird sheltering her young beneath her wings is before us, let us think of the wings of God and what is beneath them.

[J.R. Miller]

Psalm 36:7 ... How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

"The Attributes of God" 2

13. The Grace of God “By grace you have been saved, through faith.” Ephesians 2:8 God's GRACE is His freely giving salvation and Heaven to un-deserving, ill-deserving and Hell-deserving sinners. It was grace that chose us, grace that redeemed us, grace that sustains us. We contributed nothing but sin. Grace shatters pride and fuels worship. The believer lives by grace, serves by grace, and will be glorified by grace. Soli Deo Gloria!

14. The Mercy of God “His mercy endures forever.” Psalm 136:1 God's MERCY is His not giving damnation and Hell to un-deserving, ill-deserving and Hell-deserving sinners. It is God's tender heart moved to act on behalf of the miserable. The cross is the mercy seat where justice and mercy met. Every sinner awakened to his dreadful plight must flee there. Let us thank God daily that He delights in mercy and extend that mercy to others.

15. The Loving-kindness of God “Because Your loving-kindness is better than life…” Psalm 63:3 God's loving-kindness is His steadfast, covenant love expressed in action. It reaches to the heavens, surrounds the believer, and never let's go. It comforts in sorrow, and disciplines in love. The soul that rests in His loving-kindness knows a joy deeper than any worldly pleasure. May it lead you to praise, obedience, and peace.

16. The Love of God “God is love.” 1 John 4:8 God's love is holy, sovereign, and everlasting. He does not love because of who we are, but because of who He is. This love sent Christ to die for enemies, to purchase a people for Himself. It is a love that transforms and keeps. Rest in it. Rejoice in it. Reflect it to others.

17. The Love of God to Us “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” Jeremiah 31:3 That the holy God would love sinful men, is staggering. His love to us is personal, sacrificial, and unbreakable. It is the fountain of every spiritual blessing. Not even death can separate us from it. When all else fails, His love remains. Cling to it in the dark; rejoice in it in the light.

18. The Wrath of God “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven…” Romans 1:18 God's wrath is His holy hatred of sin. It is not uncontrolled rage, but righteous justice. It burned against sin at the cross, and it will be poured out eternally on the unrepentant. Tremble before it but run to Christ, who bore it for all who believe. To ignore God's wrath is spiritual suicide.

19. The Contemplation of God “Fix your thoughts on Jesus…” Hebrews 3:1 To contemplate God is the highest occupation of the soul. In beholding His glory, we are transformed. The more we meditate on His attributes, the more we are lifted from this world's vanities. Let your thoughts be filled with His greatness. You become what you behold gaze on God and be changed.

20. The Blessings of God “Every good and perfect gift is from above.” James 1:17 All blessings flow from God's fatherly hand spiritual and temporal, earthly and eternal. But the greatest blessing is Himself. To have God is to have all. Blessings are not earned but graciously given in Christ. Receive them with gratitude, steward them with faithfulness, and let them turn your heart to the Giver.

21. The Cursing of God “If anyone does not love the Lord, that person is cursed!” 1 Corinthians 16:22 God's curse is the solemn sentence upon sin. It reveals the seriousness of transgression. Yet Christ became a curse for us, that we might be freed from condemnation. The believer no longer fears the curse, for it has fallen on Another. But let us warn others, for outside of Christ, the curse remains.

22. The Gifts of God “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” 2 Corinthians 9:15 God gives freely, fully, and forever. The gift of His Son is the fountain of every other gift. He gives wisdom, strength, righteousness, and eternal life. We deserve nothing—yet He gives us everything in Christ. Receive His gifts with reverence and use them for His glory.

23. The Guidance of God “He guides the humble in what is right.” Psalm 25:9 God does not leave His people to wander. He guides by His Word, His Spirit, and His providence. His paths may not be smooth, but they are always good. Seek His direction in prayer, submit to it with joy, and trust that He leads with perfect wisdom and fatherly care.

24. The Gospel of the Grace of God “The gospel is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.” Romans 1:16 The gospel is not advice, but divine announcement God saves sinners! It is grace from first to last planned by the Father, accomplished by the Son, applied by the Spirit. It humbles the proud, exalts Christ, and transforms the heart. Proclaim it, cherish it, and never move beyond it.

"The Attributes of God" 1

1. The Solitariness of God “Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.” Psalm 90:2 Before there was time, before there was light, before there was an angel in Heaven or a speck of dust in the cosmos God was. He dwelt in solitary majesty, needing nothing, lacking nothing, desiring nothing outside Himself. He was eternally perfect in all His glorious attributes. There was no heaven for Him to inhabit, no earth to govern, no creatures to praise Him and yet He was altogether blessed.

2. The Decrees of God "The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations." Psalm 33:11 Before the foundation of the world, in the infinite recesses of eternity, God established His eternal decrees. These decrees are the manifestation of His sovereign will, the blueprint by which all creation unfolds. They are not formed in response to events, for nothing takes the Omniscient by surprise. Instead, they are the cause of all that transpires, the predetermined plan that governs the universe.

3. The Knowledge of God “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit.”  Psalm 147:5 The knowledge of God is infinite, perfect, and eternal. There is no learning with God, for He has always known all things. He never discovers, never forgets, never improves in understanding. His knowledge is not acquired it is essential to His very nature. He knows Himself fully and knows all things outside Himself perfectly, from eternity past to eternity future.

4. The Foreknowledge of God "For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His Son." Romans 8:29 To "foreknow," in the language of Scripture, is not merely to foresee but to fore love. God's foreknowledge is not detached observation of future events it is His eternal; sovereign delight set upon His chosen people before the foundation of the world. He knows all because He has ordained all.

5. The Supremacy of God “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me.” Isaiah 46:9 God is unrivaled in majesty, authority, and glory. His supremacy means He rules overall, answers to none, and is accountable only to Himself. Every creature from angels to atoms was created by His will and exists for His glory. The heart that sees this truth is laid low. He is not a deity to be invited into our plans, but the One who ordains all things from eternity. Worship Him, for none can stay His hand or say to Him, "What have You done?"

6. The Sovereignty of God “Our God is in heaven; He does whatever pleases Him.” Psalm 115:3 God's sovereignty means He reigns with absolute control over all that is and ever will be. He governs the flight of every bird, and the rise of every king. There is no detail too small, no power too great. The believer rests securely in this our lives are not ruled by luck or fate, but by the perfect wisdom and power of our God. Let us yield to His rule with reverence, trust, and joyful submission.

7. The Immutability of God “I the LORD do not change.” Malachi 3:6 God is unchanging in His essence, purposes, and promises. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. In a world of constant shifting, He alone is the Rock. His love will not fade, His Word will not fail, His will cannot be overturned. Trust Him when everything around you crumbles, for His character is steadfast and His covenant is sure.

8. The Holiness of God “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty.” Isaiah 6:3 God's holiness is the crown of all His attributes He is morally perfect, separate from all sin, and infinitely pure. His justice flows from His holiness; His grace magnifies it. To approach Him lightly, is spiritual suicide. And yet, through Christ's atonement, the Holy One calls sinners to Himself. Stand in awe, tremble in worship, and pursue holiness, for without it, no one will see the Lord.

9. The Power of God “Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth… Nothing is too hard for You.” Jeremiah 32:17 God's power is infinite, irresistible, and never exhausted. He speaks, and it is done. He raises the dead, subdues the proud, and upholds the universe by His Word. This power works for us who believe guarding, strengthening, and transforming us. When you are weak, remember: His strength is made perfect in your weakness. Nothing is impossible with God.

10. The Faithfulness of God “Your faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 119:90 God never forgets, never fails, never falters. What He promises, He performs. Men change; God does not. He is faithful in affliction, faithful in blessing, faithful in correction, faithful in His threatening's. His covenant cannot be broken, and His Word stands forever. Trust Him in the storm He is the anchor of your soul.

11. The Goodness of God “Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good.” Psalm 107:1 God's goodness is His kindness, generosity, and benevolence in action. Every sunrise, every meal, every comfort, is a token of His goodness. But the supreme display is in the gift of His Son. Even in trials, He works for our good. Let us not doubt His heart, even when we cannot trace His hand.

12. The Patience of God “The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” Psalm 103:8 How long God has endured our rebellion! His patience holds back the wrath we deserve, giving space for repentance. Yet it is not weakness it is holy restraint. Those who reject His longsuffering, invite judgment; those who embrace His mercy, bow in grateful wonder. Praise Him for His forbearance and plead with others not to presume upon it.

Rich in Spiritual Experiences

The mature Christian is rich in spiritual experiences. Oh! the experiences that he has of the ways of God, of the workings of God, of the word of God, of the love of God! Oh! the divine stories that old Christians can tell of the power of the word, of the sweetness of the word, of the usefulness of the word as a light to lead the soul, as a staff to support the soul, as a spur to quicken the soul, as an anchor to stay the soul, and as a cordial to comfort and strengthen the soul!

Oh! the stories that he can tell concerning the love of Christ, the blood of Christ, the offices of Christ, the merits of Christ, the righteousness of Christ, the graces of Christ, and the influence of Christ! Oh! the stories that an old disciple can tell of the indwelling's of the Spirit, of the operations of the Spirit, of the teachings of the Spirit, of the leadings of the Spirit, of the sealings of the Spirit, of the witnessing's of the Spirit, and of the comforts and joys of the Spirit!

Oh! the stories that an old Christian can tell of the evil of sin, of the bitterness of sin, of the deceitfulness of sin, of the prevalence of sin, and of the happiness of conquest over sin!

Oh! the stories that he can tell you of the snares of Satan, of the devices of Satan, of the temptations of Satan, of the rage of Satan, of the malice of Satan, of the watchfulness of Satan, and of the ways of triumphing over Satan! As an old soldier can tell you of many battles, many scars, many wounds, many losses, and many victories even to admiration; so, an old saint is able to tell you of many spiritual battles, many scars, many wounds, many losses, and many victories even to admiration.

Experimental religion is far beyond mere notions and impressions. A sanctified heart is better than a silver tongue. No man so rich, so honorable, so happy as the old disciple, who is rich in spiritual experiences.

Psalm 92:12-14...The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;

Psalm 25:14

The secret of the Lord is with those who fear him. Some read it "the friendship." It signifies familiar fellowship, confidential intimacy, and select fellowship. This is a great secret. Carnal minds cannot guess what is intended by it, and even believers cannot explain it in words, for it must be felt to be known.

The higher spiritual life is necessarily a path which the eagle's eye has not known, and which the lion's whelp has not traveled; neither natural wisdom nor strength can force a door into this inner chamber. Saints have the key of Heaven's hieroglyphics they can unriddle celestial enigmas. They are initiated into the fellowship of the skies they have heard words which it is not possible for them to repeat to their fellows. And he will show them his covenant. Its antiquity, security, righteousness, fullness, graciousness and excellence shall be revealed to their hearts and understandings.

Above all, their own part in it shall be sealed to their souls by the witness of the Holy Spirit. The designs of love which the Lord has to his people in the covenant of grace, he has been pleased to show to believers in the Book of Inspiration, and by his Spirit, he leads us into the mystery, even the hidden mystery of redemption. He who does not know the meaning of this verse, will never learn it from a commentary let him look to the cross, for the secret lies there.

[Charles Spurgeon]

Psalm 25:14 ... The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.
