Carmichael Quotes 2

It is great to be faced with the impossible for nothing is impossible if one is meant to do it. Wisdom will be given, and strength. When the Lord leads He always strengthens.

I think of the love of God as a great river, pouring through us even as the waters pour through a ravine at flood time. Nothing can keep this love from pouring through us, except of course our own blocking of the river. Do you sometimes feel that you have got to the end of your love for someone who refuses and repulses you? Such a thought is folly, for one cannot come to the end of what one has not got. We have no store of love at all. We are not jugs; we are riverbeds.

Blessed is the single-hearted, for they shall enjoy much peace. If you refuse to be hurried and pressed, if you stay your soul on God, then nothing can keep you from His peace.

It is a safe thing to trust Him to fulfill the desires which He creates.

There have been times of late when I have had to hold on to one text with all my might: "It is required in stewards that a man may be found faithful." Praise God, it does not say successful.

Thank God, He doesn't measure out grace in teaspoons.

Prayer is the core of the day. Take prayer out, and the day would collapse.

The saddest thing one meets, is a nominal Christian.

Carmichael Quotes

When I consider the cross of Christ how can anything that I do be called sacrifice?

Let nothing be said about anyone unless it passes through these three sieves: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

We profess to be strangers and pilgrims, seeking after a country of our own yet we settle down in this world, in the most un-stranger-like fashion exactly as if we were quite at home and meant to stay as long as we could. Apostolic living has certainly died!

If a sudden irritation can cause me to speak an impatient, unloving word then I know nothing of Calvary love. For a cup brimful of sweet water cannot spill even one drop of bitter water however suddenly jolted.

We must look upon the world, with all its delights and all its attractions with suspicion and reserve. We who love our Lord and whose affections are set on Heavenly things voluntarily and gladly lay aside the things that charm and ravish the world, that our hearts may be ravished with the things of Heaven; that our whole may be poured forth in constant and unreserved devotion in the service of the Lord who died to save us!

Let us not be surprised when we have to face difficulties. When the wind blows hard on a tree, the roots stretch and grow the stronger. Let it be so with us.

If the praise of others elates me and their criticism depresses me; if I cannot rest under misunderstanding, without defending myself; if I love to be loved more than to love, to be served more than to serve then I know nothing of Calvary love.

We have all eternity to celebrate the victories but only a few hours before sunset to win them.

In That Stillness

Blessed is the single-hearted, for they shall enjoy much peace.  If you refuse to be hurried and pressed, if you stay your soul on God, nothing can keep you from the clearness of spirit which is life and peace. In that stillness you will know what His will is.

[Amy Carmichael]

Psalm 46:10 ... Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

First Commandment

God, Hold us to that which drew us first, when the Cross was the attraction, and we wanted nothing else.

[Amy Carmichael]

Mark 12:30 ... And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

Calvary Love

If I am afraid to speak the truth lest I lose affection, or lest the one concerned should say 'You do not understand', or because I fear to lose my reputation for kindness; if I put my own good name before the other's highest good, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

[Amy Carmichael]

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 … Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.  And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.  And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

God of the Waves

But God is the God of the waves and the billows, and they are still His when they come over us; and again and again we have proved that the overwhelming thing does not overwhelm.  Once more by His interposition deliverance came. We were cast down, but not destroyed.

[Amy Carmichael]

Isaiah 51:15 ... But I am the Lord thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared: The Lord of hosts is his name.

Mark 4:8-39 ... And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?  And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Psalm 42:7-8 ... Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.  Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.❤

Always Something

It is twenty-one years this year since I could sit up, and for nineteen years it has been this one position in bed; but isn't it wonderful that He enables us to triumph, and to rejoice in Him?

There is always something to be happy about if we look for it: Two men looked through prison bars,  The one saw mud, the other stars.  No created powers in hell, or out of hell, can mar the music of our Lord Jesus, nor spoil our song of joy.

[Amy Carmichael]

James 1:2-3 ... My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

Philippians 4:1 ... Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.❤

Wilt Thou?

O thou Beloved child of My desire, Whether I lead thee through green valleys,  By still waters, Or through fire, Or lay thee down in silence under snow, Through any weather, and whatever  Cloud may gather, Wind may blow; Wilt [thou] love Me? trust Me? praise Me?

[Amy Carmichael]

Nahum 1:7 ... The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

Romans 8:38-39 ... For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 3:19 ...  And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.❤

Flame of Fire

From prayer that asks that I may be
Sheltered from winds that beat on Thee,
From fearing when I should aspire,
From faltering when I should climb higher
From silken self, O Captain, free
Thy soldier who would follow Thee.

From subtle love of softening things,
From easy choices, weakening,
(Not thus are spirits fortified,
Not this way went the Crucified)
From all that dims Thy Calvary
O Lamb of God, deliver me.

Give me the love that leads the way,
The faith that nothing can dismay
The hope no disappointments tire,
The passion that will burn like fire;
Let me not sink to be a clod;
Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God.

 [Amy Carmichael]

Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire: Psalm 104:4

In Him is Victory

Be triumphant, be triumphant,
Let the spiritual watchers see
That thy God doth strengthen thee, That in him is victory.

[Amy Carmichael]

Ephesians 3:10-11 ... To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

1 John 5:4 ... For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Philippians 4:13 ... I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

1 Corinthians 15:57 ... But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
