The dogwood flower is in the shape of a cross. It was no coincidence that the greatest event happened in spring - the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. It is mentioned in scripture that He is our 'first fruit' in the promise of new, eternal life. Spring is that great reminder after we have endured the 'dead of winter' to finally see the earth come back to life. This is what He bought us on the cross, a new life, an eternal life and life with Him forever and ever.
