Butterflies Are Free

Consider the life of a caterpillar
The kind you always see, Though it moves slowly and cautiously
Still it seems happy and free.

But, if you take a closer look
It’s confused as it moves around,
You’ll see it’s going nowhere,
Perhaps searching for safer ground.

She finds a place where she feels safe
A very private spot,
She wraps herself in a warm cocoon
It feel so safe-but it’s not.

At first she feels cozy and.warm
Though it doesn’t feel just right,
And then she begins to notice
That there isn’t any light.

Frightened and unwillingly
She begins to realize,
The cocoon she thought would keep her safe
Is nothing but a lie.

It allowed no air, no space to live
No light could enter there,
Suddenly she knew that her cocoon
Was filled with her own fear.

In desperate determination
She began to push against the walls,
To her surprise, her safe cocoon
Was just about to fall.

Bit by bit, the shell, once strong
Was destroyed by new thoughts, new life,
By God’s grace the caterpillar found
That she was reborn-a butterfly!

Brightly colored wings
Shining in the sun,
Floating so very gracefully
Flower to flower ‘til she’s gone.

Wherever her wings will take her
Whatever journey she dares,
She’s content just in knowing
That her Father is always there.

Not a worry or a fear
Does she need to bear,
Her Abba Father-Daddy
Has promised to be near.

Her gratitude to Him is due
The butterfly is free!
All glory, honor and praise to God
The butterfly is me!
