Three Rules For Marriage

Happy are they, who in the matter of marriage observe three rules:

The first is to marry only in the Lord, and after prayer for God's approval and blessing.

The second is not to expect too much from their partners, and to remember that marriage is, after all, the union of two sinners, and not of two angels.

The third rule is to strive first and foremost for one another's sanctification. The more holy married people are, the happier they are.

[J. C. Ryle]

Ephesians 5:21-25 … Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
