The problem with Hell being eternal is that it goes against the nature of God who designs all things according to his divine nature. To suggest that Hell is forever means that evil and sin will still reside in the shadows of perfection. This was not the belief in both the Old and New Testament.
The word perish means to be destroyed, render into oblivion. In other words, to perish or be destroyed carry’s the notion that at some point in the endless age of eternity, every living creature who rejects Christ will ultimately be annihilated, they will cease to exist.
That is the cold stark reality of Hell, that those who persist to live contrary to the will of God will, at some point be rendered obsolete. How tragic. That’s the true meaning of torment, knowing that one’s very existence will cease to exist.
