Under The Influence

Today we finish a year of seeking to live for God under the influence of His Holy Spirit.

With so many pressures around us on this day and on this night, we could easily give our thoughts, behaviors, and words over to the destructive influence of alcohol or other substances.

Instead, let's remember our commitment to live "under the influence" of the Holy Spirit, asking Him to bring God glory in what we think, do, and say!

Ephesians 5:17-18 ... Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.

Psalm 37:5 … Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Proverbs 16:3 … Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

Colossians 3:23-24 … And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. ❤

Blessing Divine

Though the cover is worn,
and the pages are torn,
And though places bear traces of tears,
Yet more precious than gold
Is this Book worn and old,
That can shatter and scatter my fears.

This old Book is my guide,
Tis a friend by my side,
It will lighten and brighten my way;
And each promise I find
Soothes and gladdens the mind,
As I read it and heed it each day.

To this Book I will cling,
Of its worth I will sing,
Though great losses and crosses be mine;
For I cannot despair,
Though surrounded by care,
While possessing this blessing Divine

No Fishing!

God has cast our confessed sin into the depths of the sea. God does not hold our sins against us. We should not go fishing for trouble, digging up past memories that will place us under condemnation and guilt once again. Our confessed sin is blotted out! Praise the Lord! ℛℒ

Psalm 103:10-12 … He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. ❤

The Day After Christmas

The day after Christmas is a day of broken toys, opened boxes, torn packages, thread and ribbons galore, the surprises all over, thank you’s all said. A long time coming and so soon gone!

But, when Jesus Christ is born in our hearts, there are no sad days after, no waiting a year, no putting away the thank you’s for another twelve months. Every day is Christmas when the Savior lives within, the same today as yesterday. Each day brings fresh gifts from above, not a holiday but a holy day. And we are not merely the recipients, we give because He gave, we love because He loved, and we want to share Him with everybody.

Once-a-year Christmas on the calendar is precious, but there is no “day after” when we can say, “Christ liveth in me.”

[Vance Havner]

Hebrews 13:8 … Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Galatians 2:20 … I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

When Love Was Born

❤ Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:23

Do You Hear What I Hear?

♥ And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:8-11

The Rapture

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 ♥

The Call

♥ Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

The Nail

The nail is used for many things, A useful securing tool; A hammer is taken by the hand, And drives it, that's the rule.

A nail is needed when you build, It's a necessary thing. It was also used over two thousand years ago, To hang upon a tree, the King.

He took the pain and suffering, For all mankind, you see. Yet He took the torture just for you, And He took it just for me.

You cannot keep a good man down, Through the years many have said. He went down a man, and rose a King, To deliver the spiritually dead.

He is on the throne, At God's right hand. The First, the Last, The Great I Am.

No nail nor hammer can touch Him now, The mighty King on high. What He built is forevermore, Salvation for you and I.

[Author Unknown]

Hebrews 12:2 … Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Romans 5:8 ... But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

1 Corinthians 3:11 … For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. ❤

Silent Night

❤ Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth

He Made A Way in a Manger

See mercy, mercy from on high,
Descend to rebels doomed to die.
'Tis mercy free that knows no bounds,
How grand, how gladsome is the sound.

Soon as the reign of sin began,
The light of mercy dawned on man.
When God announced the blessed news,
"The woman's Seed thy head shall bruise."

Brightly it beamed on man forlorn
When Christ the Holy Child was born
And in its fullest splendour shone
When Jesus, dying cried, "Tis done!"

[R. Sandeman 1718-1771]

Luke 1:78 … Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us. ♥

❤ Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King.”
Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!”

Joyful, all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies;
With angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem!”

Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King.”

Christ, by highest Heav’n adored; Christ the everlasting Lord;
Late in time, behold Him come, Offspring of a virgin’s womb.

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; Hail th’incarnate Deity,
Pleased with us in flesh to dwell, Jesus our Emmanuel.

Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King.”

Hail the heav’nly Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings, Ris’n with healing in His wings.

Mild He lays His glory by, Born that man no more may die.
Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth.

Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King.”

O Divine Master

Where there is hatred .. let me sow love;
Where there is injury … pardon;
Where there is doubt … faith;
Where there is despair … hope;
Where there is darkness … light;
Where there is sadness … joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek,
To be consoled … as to console;
To be understood … as to understand;
To be loved … as to love;

For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life.

Preparing

God is preparing a place for us. He is also preparing us for that place. ℛℒ

John 14:2-3 … In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

2 Corinthians 3:18 … But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. ❤

The Goose Story

The next time you see geese heading south for the winter, flying along in V formation, you might consider what science has discovered as to why they fly that way:

As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in V formation the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own. People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going more quickly and easily because they are travelling on the thrust of one another.

When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front. If we have as much sense as a goose, we will stay in formation with those who are headed the same way we are.

When the head goose gets tired, it rotates back in the wing and another goose flies point. It is sensible to take turns doing demanding jobs with people or with geese flying south.

Geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed. What do we say when we honk from behind?

Finally, and this is important, when a goose gets sick, or is wounded by gunshots and falls out of formation, two other geese fall out with that goose and follow it down to lend help and protection. They stay with the fallen goose until it is able to fly, or until it dies. Only then do they launch out on their own, or with another formation to catch up with their group.

If we have the sense of a goose, we will stand by each other like that.

And makes the nations prove

And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

The devil hates our Faith … so keep believing God.

The devil hates our Christmas … so keep shining Light.

Christmas

We see Christmas only when we truly see the Lord. It was one great leap from the throne of God to that manger in the stable; from the top of glory to the bottom of humiliation; from the bosom of God to the breast of His mother.

He put on humanity that we might put on Divinity. He loved us so that for our sakes He, through whom time was made, was made in time; and He, older by eternity than the world itself, was younger in age than many of His servants in the world.

He, who made man, was made man; He who made a tree, had come to earth to die on a tree so that we might have eternal life.

His birth was an event so miraculous that all heaven was awed with the wonder of it all.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Lay Your Burden Down

We are not designed to be alone and to carry the cares of this life. God tells us to cast ALL of our care upon Him. (1 Peter 5:7) We should not try to shoulder our burdens. The increasing load will break us over time. Instead, we need to lay our burdens down at the foot of the cross. Jesus will meet us there… and He lightens our load!

[Author Unknown]

Psalm 55:22 … Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Matthew 11:28-30 … Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

John 8:36 … If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. ❤

It's About the Cross

If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator.

If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist.

If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist.

If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer.

But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us a Saviour.

[Author Unknown]

1 John 4:9-10 ...  In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.❤

Psalm 141:2 … Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

Psalm 150:6 … Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

To cheer a darkened day,
If I held out a friendly hand
To help along the way.
Then in these acts of kindness done
It is not me that you see,
But glimpses of that Loving One
Who chose to dwell in me.

Jesus Calling

Don’t be foolish or slow of heart, I will not pass you by.
Sit with Me.

I am your healer, the restorer of your soul, and the One who forgives.
Turn to Me.

I will lead you to still waters and quiet resting places.
Walk with Me.

I wait for you with outstretched arms to assure you of My love.
Run to Me.

Let My words be as a flame of love that burns deep within you.
Sup with Me.

Why are you troubled and why do doubts arise so easily?
Look to Me.

I am your song, I want to fill your heart with My praises.
Delight in Me.

What I have told you, I am faithful to fulfill.
Rest in Me.

Let Me open your understanding so you can know all I have done for you.
Learn of Me.

I am glorified and have sent you the promise of My Father.
Drink of Me.

I will be your source of joy and fruitfulness. You will never be empty.
Abide in Me.

I speak to you the promises that come from My Father’s heart.
Trust in Me.

I place My hands over you and pour out my richest blessings upon you.
Receive from Me.
