One Solitary Life

He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in still another village, where He worked in a carpenter shop until He was 30, and then for three years He was an itinerant preacher.

He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never owned a house. He never went to college. He never visited a big city.

He never traveled more than 200 miles from the place He was born. He did none of the things one usually associates with greatness. He had no credentials but Himself.

He was only thirty-three when the tide of popular opinion turned against Him. His friends ran away. He was turned over to His enemies, and went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves.

While He was dying, His executioners gambled for His clothing, the only property He had on earth. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.

Twenty centuries have come and gone, and today He is the central figure of the human race, the leader of mankind's progress.

All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man on earth as much as that One Solitary Life.

Sanctuary

Lord, prepare me
to be a sanctuary;
Pure and holy
tried and true

With thanksgiving
I’ll be a living
Sanctuary, for you

[Artist: Randy Rothwell]

Exodus 15:17 … Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O LORD, which thy hands have established.

2 Corinthians 6:4-8 … But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; By pureness, by knowledge, by long suffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;

1 Peter 1:13 … Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. ♥

No Limit

He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase;
To added affliction He addeth His mercy;
To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources,
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

Fear not that thy need shall exceed His provision,
Our God ever yearns His resources to share;
Lean hard on the arm everlasting, availing;
The Father both thee and thy load will upbear.

His love has no limit; His grace has no measure.
His pow’r has no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus,
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again!

[Annie Johnson Flint]

Psalm 108:4 … For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds.

John 1:16 ... And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

2 Corinthians 12:9 … And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

The Atheist Neighbor

There was a little old lady who would come out every morning on the steps of her front porch, raise her arms to the sky and shout, "Praise the Lord!"

Well, one day an atheist moved into the house next door. Over time, he became irritated at the little old lady. So every morning he would step out onto his front porch and yell after her, "There is no God!"

Time passes with the two of them carrying on this way every day. Then one morning in the middle of winter, the little old lady stepped onto her front porch and shouted, "Praise the Lord! Lord, I have no food and I am hungry. Please provide for me, oh Lord!"

The next morning she stepped onto her porch and there were two huge bags of groceries sitting there. "Praise the Lord!" she cried out. "He has provided groceries for me!"

The atheist jumped out of the hedges and shouted, "There is no Lord. I bought those groceries!"

The little old lady threw her arms into the air and shouted, "Praise the Lord! He has provided me with groceries and He made the devil pay for them!"

Shirley and Marcy

A mom was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school. He didn’t want his mother to walk with him. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe.

So she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he probably wouldn’t notice her.

She said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed.

The next school day, the neighbor and her little girl set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor girl he knew. She did this for the whole week.

As the two walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy’s little friend noticed the same lady was following them as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally she said to Timmy, ‘Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week?

Do you know her?’
Timmy nonchalantly replied,
‘Yeah, I know who she is.’
The little girl said, ‘Well, who is she?’

‘That’s just Shirley Goodnest,’ Timmy replied, ‘and her daughter Marcy.’

‘Shirley Goodnest? Who the heck is she and why is she following us? ‘

‘Well,’ Timmy explained, ‘every night my Mom makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, ‘cuz she worries about me so much.

And in the Psalm, it says, ‘Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life’, so I guess I’ll just have to get used to it!’

Psalm 23:1-6 …
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. ♥

Born Again

If you have been truly born again you have a new and holy nature, and you are no longer moved towards sinful objects as you were before. The things that you once loved you now hate, and therefore you will not run after them. You can hardly understand it but so it is, that your thoughts and tastes are radically changed. You long for that very holiness which once it was irksome to hear of; and you loathe those vain pursuits which were once your delights.

[Charles Haddon Spurgeon]

Ezekiel 36: 26-27 … A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Acts 10:43 … To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

Romans 6:6-7 … Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.

2 Corinthians 5:17 … Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. ♥

The Holy Bible

The Bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers.

Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its stories are true, and its decisions are immutable.

Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.

It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you.

It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s charter.

Here paradise is restored, heaven opened, and the gates of hell disclosed.

Christ is its grand subject, our good its design, and the glory of God its end.

It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet.

Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully.

It is a mine of wealth, health to the soul, and a river of pleasure.

It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.

Pray it in, read it through, live it out, and pass it on.

[Narrated by Morgan Freeman]

Acts 20:32 … And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

Proverbs 30:5 … Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Psalm 119:105 … Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

John 5:39 … Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

1 Timothy 4:16 … Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 … All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Hebrews 4:12 … For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ♥

Balanced Life

My life has been balanced
with pleasures and trials;
I've had many teardrops
and thousands of smiles.

I've soared to the moon
and I've plunged to the sand,
My life has been balanced
by God's loving hand.

I've had many friendships
I've had a few foes,
in the life of a Christian
that's the way that it goes.

Should I just accept
only good from God's hands?
No, I must endure
whatever he plans.

But I can be sure
and you can be, too,
all things work for best
as God deals with you.

[Author Unknown]

Jeremiah 29:11 … For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Romans 8:28 … And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

1 Peter 4:13 … But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

2 Corinthians 9:8 … And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Philippians 1:6 … Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: ♥

Remembrance

Oh, how could it be
That my God would welcome me
Into this mystery?
Say, "take this bread, take this wine"
Now the simple made divine
For any to receive

By Your mercy we come to Your table
By Your grace You are making us faithful

Lord, we remember You
And remembrance leads us to worship
And as we worship You
Our worship leads to communion
We respond to Your invitation
We remember You

See His body, His blood
Know that He has overcome
Every trial that we face
None too lost to be saved
None to broken or ashamed
All are welcome in this place

Dying, You destroyed our death
Rising, You restored our life
Lord Jesus, come in glory
Lord Jesus, come in glory

[Sung by Matt Redman]

1 Corinthians 11:24-26 … And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. ♥

Forgive

To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.

[C.S. Lewis]

Ephesians 4:32 … And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Colossians 3:13 … Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Mark 11:25 … And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

Matthew 5:44 … But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.

Matthew 18:21-22 … Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. ♥

The Fence

There was a little boy with a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper to hammer a nail in the back fence.

The first day the boy had driven thirty-seven nails into the fence. Then it gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out a nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.

“You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When we say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say ‘I’m sorry,’ the wound is still there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.”

His Eagle's Wings Of Love

Praise God, He’s always here for me,
He never lets me fall!
He is always there to carry me when
On His Precious name I call!

Knowing He’s beside me
and provides me all that I need,
He Keeps my spirits bolstered
and I am free, free indeed!

All my worries and distress,
Are sent to Him above!
When I get down He lifts me up on
His Eagles Wings Of Love.

Psalm 103:5 … Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Isaiah 40:31 … But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. ♥

Clean Up

As I go about my housework
Let me see each job I do,
As a service for my King
And a way of loving You.

Let me wash away my judgments
Of others right or wrong,
As I wash up the dishes
Place within my heart a song.

As I clean up little fingerprints
And lots of muddy shoes,
May I remember how you cleaned the feet
Of the loved ones you did choose.

As I mend up torn pajamas
And sew a button on,
Show me where I need to mend a breech
That’s gone on far too long.

Let me tidy up my thoughts
As I tidy up the toys,
Let me sweep away my fears
Like the dirt from little boys.

May I be just as quick with my forgiveness
As I am with mop and broom,
Sweeping up the clutter
In my heart and living room.

May I rinse out pride and ego
As I rinse the bathtub out,
And while we are at it Lord
Let’s take care of anger, hate and doubt.

Please remind me often Lord
That the way I’m called to serve,
Is an honor given me
And not below what I deserve.

You know Lord, as I look
At all the work we need to do,
I think we’d better house clean
At least each day or two.

Psalm 51:10 … Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. ♥

Consider the Lilies

Consider the lilies of the field
How they grow, how they grow
Consider the birds in the sky
How they fly, how they fly

He clothes the lilies of the field
He feeds the birds in the sky
And he will feed those who trust Him
And guide them with his eye

Consider the sheep of his fold
How they follow, where he leads
Though the path may wind across the mountain
He knows the meadows where they feed

He clothes the lilies of the field
He feeds the birds in the sky
And he will feed those who trust Him
And guide them with his eye

Consider the sweet tender children
Who must suffer on this earth
The pains of all of them he carried

From the day of his birth

He clothes the lilies of the field
He feeds the lambs of his fold
And he will heal those who trust him
And make their hearts as gold

Song of Solomon 2:12 … The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;

Song of Solomon 6:3 … I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine: he feedeth among the lilies.

Psalm 65:12 … They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side.

Psalm 103:15 … As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.

Isaiah 40:8 …The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

Deuteronomy 32:2 … My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:

Matthew 6:28-30 … And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Luke 12:27 … Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ♥

Light and Darkness

There are two types of people in the world; Those who draw you IN to God's presence, And those who draw you AWAY from God's presence. Choose your friends wisely.

2 Corinthians 6:14 … Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

1 John 2:15 … Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Proverbs 12:26 … The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

Proverbs 22:24-25 … Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

2 Peter 3:17 … Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

Galatians 5:8-9 … This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

1 Corinthians 15:33 … Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. ♥

Psalm 1:3 … And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

2 Peter 3:18 … But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 3:17-19 … That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. ♥

Spiritual Exercise

Spiritual Exercise means that we are to imitate King Yeshua Jesus. Ephesians 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; ~

God is Holy (Leviticus 11:45) We are to be Holy (1 Peter 1:16)
God is merciful (Deuteronomy 4:31) We are to be merciful (Luke 6:36)
God is forgiving (Numbers 14:18) We are to forgive (Ephesians 4:32)
God loves (Ephesians 2:4) We are to love (1 John 4:11)

Exercise Daily!

Psalm 119:32 … I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.

Philippians 2:12-13 … Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Romans 15:13 … Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Matthew 4:4 … But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

1 Timothy 4:7-8 … But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. ♥
